The unibody and almost the entire suspension are identical on V6 & GT. The things to be concerned with would be the weaker V6 rear end, and V6 T5 transmission if reusing when swapping to 5.0.

Great and informative post! Thanks Metalman 302. I am going to do a 94-95 V8 swap, using a carburetor. As far as the throttle linkage, do you know if the stock FI linkage will connect to the carb? Or do I need to cut /modify it, or is their any company out there that makes one that bolts/fits right in?

As far as the exhaust, I'm going with headers. Will ones made to fit the GTs fit crate engines or 60s to 70s 302s and 351s?

The carb throttle cable I have no idea.

The exhaust, I am not positive but I believe the GT headers should fit nearly all 302 heads.

2000 trans

whats the difference in a 2000 mustang v6 and 2001 mustang v6 transmission I have a 2000 just bought a 2001 trans and shop said it wont work any ideas

Right now I have a 95 mustang I removed the engine and tranny . I was given a 302 and t5 from a family member to swap back in .. But my plans have changed and I will be going with a 306 or 347 instead and it with be carburated. Just want to know all I will need to complete the swap is a bell housing from a 95gt , And the k member from the v6 is good ? Any info will help me a lot thanks !

All the axles and brakes and everything from the 94-98 V6 7.5 rear will swap right over to the Fox 8.8. 99-04 cars should use a 99-04 rear because they had wider axles and wider housing than 94-98.
So does this mean a 04 7.5" rear end will not fit in a 97 Mustang?

it'll fit but wheels will be wider apart.

Not sure if I should have posted this here or not so I cCreated a new post here http://www.allfordmustangs.com/foru...ms/4-6l-tech/769330-1996-mustang-automatic-manual-swap-what-parts-required.html
I am new to Mustangs so pardon my lack of knowledge. My girlfriends son just picked up a 96 V6 5-spd that has a complete 4.6 GT swap (motor, auto, rear) and we would like to now swap the automatic to a 5-speed. Clutch pedals are still in the car so that isn't a problem. Is the cross member and drive shaft the same for the automatic or will we need to swap that as well? The previous owner gave a us a 5-speed trans, flywheel and clutch with the car that he was going to swap but never did. Also how do I identify if this is the correct trans or not?

Thanks,
Scott

2000 3.8 to 4.6 engine swap

Metalman. I have a simple question. Will the 4.6 engine fit on the K-member for the stock 3.8, or did they have different K-members for the 4.6 GT's

The k-member matches the motor in the GT model of car we're talking about. 94-95GTs had the old 5.0 so they have one k member, the v6 also sits on that. the 96-04GTs have the 4.6sohc and have a different k member to fit that. the same kind of v6 sits on that k member as well, but with different motor mounts.

The T45 will bolt to it. But if the trans was from the v6 it is a t5 with the removable bellhousing from the outside. The t5 will not fit the 4.6. I recommend finding a t45 if you dont already have one. Or the t3568 or something similar to that. Edit: I am stupid, forgot he mentioned he created a new thread.

Hi I have a 94 gt automatic I just bought and the transmission is gone been told and thing I saw in the first post that the 94-95 gt and v6 mustangs used the same automatic transmission? Just wanting to verify whether they are or aren't before buying a 95 v6 parts car thanks in advance.

I am thinking about swapping my 3.8 to a 4.7 or a 5.0 next summer. I'm saving this writeup so I can reference it. Thanks!

I am in the middle of a 00 3.8 to 4.6 swap. car is a 00, motor is late 01. i have already swapped differential to 8.8 with 4.10s, adj. upper control arms, with mega bite Jr. lower control arms. aluminum drive shaft, 3650 trans, swapped the k member with a UPR tubular k member with tubular A arms coil overs in the front. i have a question about the braking system... so from what i am reading from this post i need to swap over the brake pedal also? is it just the peddle or what else do i need to swap over? how about the brake calipers and brackets? i already was told i had to swap over the HB and the master cylinder. i am also having a little problem with the heater tube on my 4.6 motor. i had to build the motor myself from the ground up. the motor sadly still has stock internals. it also has ported and polished stock PI heads, dished pistons, stage 3 comp cams. i also want to spray a 100 shot or a 150 shot. how much could i spray safely with all the mods i have and the stock internals? the problem i am having with the heater tube is with the fitment of it and the way it fits with my upper intake i have the trick flow bullet series aluminum upper intake. i got the heater tube from late model restoration and i think it is out of shape the fitment is not fitting right on the back of the block as it is suppose to screw in to the back of the block. also the way it is bent it does not fit all on the nipple all the way. also when i drop on my upper intake the heater tube is sitting too high and wont let me drop it down to set it up properly and bolt it to the block. would it be better to get another 1 or or bend this one? and if so how can i bend it properly? or could i just attach a heater hose with a clamp on it and just run it to the back of the block? also does any 1 have the torque specs for the k member and all differential components along with upper and lower control arms, also front a arms? and and all help would be much appreciated.

I am swapping my v6 to a pre 81 302 with a carb to my existing 3.8 transmission 4r70w which should work from what I've read I plan on using a aftermarket fuel injection system at a later date
