Vert Owners: Do you park your car with the top down???

How safe is it to leave your vehicle parked with the top down? Everyone seems to do it, but I always feel uncomfortable leaving it open. Of course, I leave no personal posessions in the car, but I'm afraid of some idiot lifting my ride. Your thoughts.

It all depends on WHERE you park it with the top down. :gringreen I usually leave mine down at a fast food joint where I can sit and keep an eye on it. I'm not afraid to leave it down when I am on the military base at the exchange doing some shopping. Even then, I lock loose items in the glove box just in case. Walmart, Target and the like are not places I leave it down. Just use your common sense and consider your surroundings. :thumbsup
For the 2 minutes it takes to put the top up, I wouldn't take the chance. Just my opinion though...
Where you can keep an eye on it

I will leave the top down if I can keep my eye on it from inside the store, restaurant, etc. I do notice that it attracts alot of attention from passersby and they do a "looksee" into the car. If I see another stang 'vert parked with the top down, I will park next to it, knowing that I will keep an eye for a fellow stang owner or he would do the same! :drink:
I'll leave my top down ONLY if I'm dropping off a movie or filling up with gas. If I pull the key out ... the top goes up.
Yep. Me too. My car is a no spit/no flicked cigarette zone.

2 minutes? Wow, you better make a trip to your service department. Mine only takes 20-30 seconds to close (including windows).  Just messin' with ya clubt! :heha:
usually down unless out of sight for an hour or so...wish the motion sensor alarm would work with top down/windows up.
overnight: top up. around town and i am SURE it won't rain: top down. i had my saab top slashed twice. if someone wants to get in your vert, fabric is not going to stop them, so, there's an argument for down!

:yup: I spit out my window ONCE ....... it got all over the side of my car and dried there. I didn't notice it till my friend was looking at my car and said "You have something on your car." and proceeded to touch it and try and wipe it off with his hand :heha: I guess to see if it was a scratch or tree sap or something, I just laughed and didn't say a word. I'm laughing about that right now, LOL.
i put mine up more for weather protection than bad guys.. I hate burnin my butt getting back in on those hot sunny days. If someone wants to get in, they are going to top up or down.. Less damage if its already down.. Just use common sense, dont leave items in plain view, etc. Its usually situationally dependent on whether it goes up or down.
It's up unless It's a quick like getting a big gulp at 7-11
Park with top down...

Just a note guys, I was once a Military Police (MP) and now I am Military lawyer (JAG), and I am not convinced that parking at a military base such as the PX/BX or commissary is a safe place. Most of the car break-ins I have investigated (as a MP) and prosecuted as a JAG were done by military personnel. It is true, that I feel safer on base than in a mall or shopping center, and it is true that as a MP I did discover that some breakins and such were caused by dependants, friends, or civilians, but in truth, the majority were caused by military personnel. Just becareful where ever you park you vert with the top down.:winks
