i don't think there's a special tool. the gasket might be whats holding it on.
What year? PM me and I will send you the Ford DVD procedure to remove/replace the waterpump on a 2000 4.6L GT. :bigthumbsup
its a 96 its a buddy of mines
Ford DVD looks like it is just 4 bolts and an O ring. Pm me if you want me to send it to you.
According to the Haynes repair manual, 96-04 Mustang 4.6L engines all use a large O ring seal and 4 bolts to hold it to the engine and 4 bolts holding the pulley onto the shaft.

If it sticks once the bolts are removed, it says to take a plastic softblow hammer or place a piece of wood against it and tap the wood with a hammer until it loosens. :bigthumbsup
Yup, that's all there is, they almost always stick, just give it a tap and it should come off.
It's stuck on. Prybar, hammer. Force it off.
