Most alarms are pretty useless. How many times have you heard a car alarm going off in the parking lot? When you do, do you see anybody heading in that direction to check it out? No, you don't. They don't scare off theives, and they don't attract attention.
Get one that calls/pages you. You want to be notified when some one is messing with your car.
I have a LoJack installed in my truck. It (supposedly) calls my cell phone if the truck moves anywhere. I havn't tried that out, though.
Also, consider a battery backup, a tilt sensor if you have nice rims, and an infrasonic or ultrasonic sensor (Autopage SIS-12 or DEI 509U provided you leave your windows rolled up).
I really like the concept of the infrasonic and ultrasonic sensor since they detect changes in cabin air pressure. If the cabin air pressure drops for any reason (broken window, opened door, popped trunk, etc.) the alarm will sound!
