Hi, guys im new here. and I'm a first-time mustang owner im 17 and this is my first post. It's always been a dream of mine to own one my whole life and about 2 months ago I made that dream a reality. I only had three parameters while looking for a stang, low km, manual, and 5.0. and then I found a mint 2011 gt cs convertible and couldn't believe that id did it, I'd worked 3 summers in a row sold my old f150 for a profit in the covid market, and bought my dream car. here it is I'm incredibly proud so don't be too mean haha.

Anyway, I am aware that this is much more power than I "need" and im just wondering if you guys have some tips on how to respect this car and its power as well as not dying. as well as any tips for posting here as im excited to join this community in a respectful way

I think it's great if you earned it; and since you earned it, you've already demonstrated that you have some solid discipline.

Just go easy on the gas pedal and you'll be fine . . . resist the temptation to show off and definitely DO NOT street race . . . don't let your friends (or not-friends) get you to do stupid things.

I know those things are hard, especially at 17, but it can be done, and you and your friends can survive . . . I had a 1970 Olds 442 at your age, which was a monster in it's time and I survived; but your Mustang outperforms that old beast by a big margin and it can get you into big trouble very quickly.

Congrats on the car. Just please be careful and don’t try to prove anything. Plenty of 27, 37,47, 57 year olds couldn’t resist showing off, only to total their cars and get/cause some injuries.

The convertible likely doubled your insurance premium. Without owning a garage (and a house to go along with it) I would never recommend that anyone own a convertible.

Hi...cool car..congratulations!!!! Enjoy it learn wat it's capable of and watch the wet streets...they tend to break loose. Otherwise use you common sense and just enjoy the cool car.

Just learn to drive with a light right foot especially on wet roads or if you have to deal with snow. A heavy foot will get you into trouble in more ways then one.

I see the Canadian flag by your name. If this is the case and you live in Canada, the cost of filling your tank few times should convince you to stay away from any lead foot activities.

Mustang owners are a diverse group. As you post, you are 17 years old.... I am responding to your post and I'm 78 years old. Says something about our hobby, doesn't it?

That 2011 will be easier than a Fox era Mustang to control in inclement weather. 20 years ago I picked up a pretty nice condition 1988 LX 5.0, and foolishly decided to jump on the throttle on a wet road... After 3 1/2 donuts and finally coming to a stop looking the way I came (fortunately hurting nothing but my pride), I realized that even my 32 year old self can't outsmart Physics, so after that I drove the car like I had an egg under my right foot when conditions weren't good. The moral of the story is: You'll be fine as long as you respect the car. I'll also say it's awesome you have the discipline to save up the funds to get that car at 17. Congrats, and enjoy some cruisin with the top down before it gets too cold.

I think you'll be fine. You've already shown the maturity it takes to save up for a car like that at 17. More maturity knowing the car can get you in trouble, and even more maturity asking for advice. You obviously have a good head on your shoulders. As long as you trust your instincts, you'll be fine. Congratulations on the new ride!

Congratulations on your Mustang My first car 1978 was dark green 71 Torino 302 4 door bought from ederly lady $550 .

Just one ticket or accident and you'll be shocked at what it does to your insurance rate. When I was 38, I got a ticket for being 10 MPH over the speed limit and my insurance more than doubled. Anyway, you don't need to hotrod in order to turn heads. My 02 GT still turns heads when I drive around (at the speed limit).

When I bought my 2013 GT I still had my 2005 GT and had it for sale for awhile. Got lots of calls and emails on it but they were mostly idiots trying to trade stuff for it like Harleys or another car etc. Finally this guy called and came to see it and then found out it was for his son who was 17 years old and his first car. I did not feel right selling it to new driver and actually tried to talk him out of it. But he said his son was very mature and trusted him. So I went to start it and the battery was dead. I got out my lithium tiny battery jumper and he swore it would not start it but it did. He went for a test ride and wanted it. Then I discovered the window did not go up that extra inch when you closed the door and the radio would not turn off as well as turn signals would not work all the time. I would not sell a car to anyone that was not working properly and called him back telling him I had to have it looked at. He said OK let me know when you have it fixed. It took me over 2 weeks as my local mechanic could not figure it out and I had to take it to Ford. They did whatever it is they do to refresh the computer and it fixed some things but before I left discovered the turn signals were still doing the same thing. It was the computer that was bad and cost me $600 to replace. Called the guy up and he still wanted it. If it was me I would have walked away at this point but he came and bought it at title transfer place on my home from the Ford garage and gave me a ride home. He texted me a year later asking what oil I used in it and said they have had no issues and his son loved the car. I was happy about that and that his son did not go out and get into trouble as I would have at 17 years old.

I don't expect you will be posting at 18.... although if you grew up in Canada you may do better than most at controlling the oversteer when you hammer the gas. Good luck.

Yeah it’s kinda sad nowadays, not a single other “performance” Vehicle in my school parking lot expect for one bright blue automatic 2019 GTI driven by some guy who got it as a gift and doesn’t know anything about it. We truly are the last of our kind

Maybe there's still hope of him getting more acquainted with his car. But if he just uses it as some sort of high-performance appliance, then it's a shame
