I was wondering what you guys/gals thought about this. Do you think you are more likely to be targeted by the law just because you installed that cool scoop or rim or whatever? What mod do you think attracts the most attention (I'm talking about negative attention here)?

Not for me. I drive around with Fat tires, Weld Wheels, cowl, Flowmasters and even my Firebird Driver number on my car. The cops just glance, as I obey every driving law, and my car is totally legal. I think it's a respect thing. You respect the laws of the road and they leave you alone.

I've never passed a cop without him watching me so hard they'll crane their necks as I go by... And the exhaust isn't stock, but it's FAR from loud. They just don't like the looks of the car!

Other than them... I get compliments almost every day! :)

Cops can all #(0W me!

I think a modified Mustang GT is a BUTCHERED Mustang. Some people go way too far. Wheels, maybe. I honestly think the car should be left alone for the most part. I feel that it is mostly people putting money into a car they are not gonna get back. Leave the car alone. Factory original is worth more. Why waste money?

How is it butchered? As long as we arent changing them structurely, then why not modify? Some of us like to go fast, if nobody modified anything, it would be a boring world.

Dennis 99% of the people here will disagree. You mod your car to your taste and budget. Who cares how much it costs and who cares about resale???? By the time your stock car is worth anything you and I will be dead. In the mean time I'm driving my modded stang and lovin it

my 97 gt has a no cat xpipe and flowmasters ,is lowered with cobra rims and is red with a black hood. on three different occasions a cop sitting next to me at red light has asked me to roll down my window ,automaticaly i think oh oh ! and then they asked "are those flowmasters? "yes sir" i answer "sounds good". ..so grabbing attention not necesarily a bad thing.

horsepower silly..... do you have any idea how many S197 GT's are running around? too many to make anything other than a P51 Roush or SuperSnake/Don Prudhomme Shelby or something to equal rarity, worth anything in our life times.

I think the cars should be left alone. I'm not knocking any owners who chose to do so, but i for the most part will not. Wheels, maybe. Signal sequencers, maybe, but that's it. I think the car is worth more the way it is. Pristine condition, always shining, clean, mechanically sound, that's my thing. Serious modifications? Not a chance. A neighbor of mine did some serious modifications to his GT convertible. He lost his job, tried to sell the car, tried to trade it for something cheaper, no chance. Dealers told him to put it back the way it was then maybe they would talk. The bank eventually came and got it. He is now back on his feet, pretty quickly i might add, bought another new GT convertible and is leaving this one pretty much stock with the exception of some very minor modifications. I'm now after a 2011 myself and i have no plans to touch it. My 2005 has only 9k on it. I'm gonna keep it.

Yes - I think that modified gets more attention - but it is not always negative.

Making mods to your stang is all about personal preference - that being said you should mod well within your means...$.

For me, making mods to my car is also about spending quality time with my dad - you can't put a value on that!

Wheels.

My first car ('73 Nova) was a hand me down from an uncle. It had Cragar SS mags. Even when driving slow and obeying all the laws, I'd get trailed by the cops for a couple of blocks. I ditched the mags for factory rally wheels but kept the F60's in back (hey it was the '70s). I made all the usual mods including headers and duals. A little louder, a lot quicker, same tires ..... I never got a second look from the cops.

I would love for a cop to pull me over to check out my ride - that would have to be it because I always go the speed limit. :kooky:And just out of curiosity, what is a clutch delete option?

I think I know where you're going with this Dennis and I would agree, however, I don't feel a modded mustang is "butchered" per se. If I get a mustang that I plan on keeping because it's my hobby, then I will mod it out to my taste and budget as someone stated. If at any time I think there is a possibility that I would sell it, then I'll keep all my stock parts and switch them back when I am ready to sell. I bought a 2007 GT CS just recently but plan on keeping it stock, because I plan on selling it when it's paid off to get a GT500. Now, my GT500 I don't have intentions of selling so I'll be doing some mods; albeit I'll keep the stock parts :winks
