Planning on a gear swap soon and thinking either 3.73 or 4.10 and I have an auto. What do you guys recommend? I am pretty sure I have 3.31 now as my axle code is cg. I haven't checked the pumpkin yet.

Only mods I have planned are tuner, JLT series 3, different gear and already have a mac axle back on the way.:)

3.90 might be ideal but ford racing does not make a 3.90 and I have heard some of the none ford gears aren't that great.

Thanks in advance for replies.

I posted on this same issue not too long ago. 3:73 or 4:10s'. I have a 2007 GT convertible 5 sp auto with 3:31's right now. Brenspeed detroit rocker cams, FRPP CAI and a LaMotta Performance dyno tune. I received many opinions but it was pretty split between the two ratios. Guess it all depends on what you are looking for from your car. I have decided to go with the 3:73's mainly because its a daily driver and I hit the interstate often. Looking for more street performance then the 4:10's may be what you are looking for. Im sure others will chime in here. But no matter how you go, go with the FRPP gears and stay away from the Motive gears.

By the way, on the install kit, I found a place in Cali that has rebuild kits using timken bearings:

Thanks for the quick replies. Any idea what kind of mileage difference between 3.73 and 4.10? I won't do much interstate driving with it.

One more question should I order the install kit that comes with the bearing kit?

I would add an install kit that included new bearings. Most of the kits have Japanese bearings but the one at the link I posted has Timkin bearings which are made in the USA.

I have almost the same mods as you do! I just had 4.10s installed in my auto last Oct. What a difference in driving. It definitely revs higher at all times, but I got used to it pretty quick. My car is not a daily driver, I wish it was, but I really would advise to go with FRPP 4.10s in your application. My gas milage is always a little bit above 18mpg and thats cause I like to give it a lot of gas most the time. Let me tell you, its not going to be a burnout machine either. I was worried about that before I got mine installed. It will spin the tires all the way through 2 gear if I take TCS off and just floor the pedal. However, I learned where the best point was to give it gas and it really gets up and goes. I must say I am very happy with my decision. Good luck!

like Mustangs don't have enough traction problems to begin with, you will have more with 3.73s and more over that with 4.10s
Most agree 3.73 is the best all around gear

I am going to be looking for a set of lower control arms and some nice tires next year. Gotta keep the mods coming!

We put 4.10's in almost every auto car that comes here BUT depending on you and your mods you may want a different ratio. The link below may help your decision. I wrote it a couple months ago. Also stick with FRPP gears from a brand stand point.

Thanks for the link. Looks like 1 guy didn't like the 3.31 to 4.10 and said his MPG suffered drastically. I am seriously thinking about doing the 3.73 but I wonder if it would even be worth doing going from a 3.31?

Also I was looking at that thread and saw the discount code but it no longer works. Do you guys have any discount codes for members? I am probably going to order a tuner/jlt series 3 and 3.73s or 4.10s and wouldn't mind a discount code if I do.:heha:

I can still do our black friday / cyber monday special on gears. FRPP 4.10 gears were only $143 and you get the install kit for $69. You will have to order over the phone though to get that discount 574.594.9559, 3.73 were not on sale. THANKS

How fast do you guys ship? I think I am going to hold off on the gear purchase for now so I can get more of a feel for the car and just do the SCT and series 3 JLT combo pack. I have tried getting a discount code for AM and nobody replies plus you guys are closer to me as I am in IL. And I hear your tunes are good.:)

You'll like the 4.10's. Wifes 06 GT Vert automatic, we put 3.73's in it in 2008. Ran it for a year and not impressed. Put in 4.10's next and that is what it needed. Along with UDP's, elec. water pump and aluminum DS, her car is pretty peppy. And didn't hurt mpg's to bad, can avg 24 mpg on highway. :bigthumbsup

Another reason I think I am going to go with the 4.10s is I just installed my mac axle back and the drone is a little annoying from 1750-2000 and I think the 4.10s wil get me a little above the 2k mark. 2100 the drone is completely gone.
