Hello all,
I have a 2004 3.9 all stock, but the mufflers force 2 flowmasters. I want to change my gears and put in a posse traction. Help me please what is the best gear ratio for my car and brand?

It all depends on how you youse your car, and how you want to modify it.

-What's your goal? Where do you drive?
I did look it up although I'm still confused. in all I want to gain some speed, and I want both rear tires to have power.
I drive the car mostly on the weekends and after work, i would say equal amount of time driving on the highway and local.
what do you guys think?

are you planning a power adder? SC or turbo? If so stick with the 3.27s already in the car. and get a detroit locker. pick up an underdriver with your gear money.

If you're doing both highway and city in equal amounts - I'd say go with 3.55s out of a Ranger, or 3.73s.
Thanks Kc, is there any hp advantage with the detroit locker? I dont have the money for a supercharger right now but it is in the plans.

should i go with the ford racing gears, if I decide to go with 3.73s, and if so whats the hp gain ?

Also changing the pullys sounds like a good idea.

I do appreciate your help man.

you don't gain any hp with a gear swap, or with a limited slip rear.

the limited slip transfers torque mechanically to the wheel with the most grip.

Changing the gear ratio is like changing gears in your bicycle (same principle, as the car is an evolution of the bike -the pistons are basically your legs pumping the crank). you switch to a higher ratio gear, and it's easier to turn the wheels.

You don't make any more power, when you change gears in your bike . . .
