what happened to my posi-rear?

i have my '89 GT for a little more than a month and just checked the door codes after doing a one-wheel braking burnout. According to the tag it has a :sosad: 2.73 locking rear diff. Why does only one wheel spin? Are the clutches destroyed? is it cheaper to repair or replace the posi unit with lets say an auburn unit? thanks.

clutch kit goes for 50 bucks and dont forget the friction modifier
Or go to a junkyard and look for a rear out of an 80's T bird TURBO COUPE. 3.55 for manuals and 3.73 was in the autos.

3.55 rear here. POSI even.

But if you want to keep the 2.73 get the rebuild kit and have a professional install it.

That would be '87/'88 only. They had 8.8" rears with disc brakes (and as mentioned, 3.55:1 or 3.73:1 gearsets). Earlier TCs ('83-'86) did not have the same rear or gears.
