Does anyone know what this does?
How does it operate?
I've had my car for about 3 months now and I keep wondering what it does.
(I'm too chicken to push when car is running)
Only time I've press it (accidentally) is when I clean the interior. (Car off) It just makes a clicking noise, and a light flashes behind my dash.

Just a wild guess, but possibly part of a Nitrous setup. It could be a purge activation switch (likely), or a scramble button (less likely).

What year is your car? Possibly, the overdrive button for your transmission. Mines is located on the end of the shifter, and a light comes on in the dash when activated. Just a wild guess.

Really? You think?
That crossed my mind but had heavy doubts. Just seems too good to be true.
I'ma have to look into that.

It's a 68 mustang. Originally an inline 6 but beefed up with a 351 for drag as I understand from the previous owner.
I asked him about that button but didn't really explain much. Just said he "used" it once. His buddy then followed up by saying something about a launch, that I'd stay wheels spinning for a good minute before it darts.

It was just a wild guess, IDK what it is for. Best answer is to trace wires or test it out. It could even be an aftermarket line-lock activation.

Trans brake maybe? The clicking you hear is likely a relay. You're probably going to have to follow wires to find out for sure.
Interesting. No idea what that is.
You're probably right though. Not something I'm looking forward to. Haha

Got you. I will have to do.
Appreciate your time. Thanks!

Its the ejection button for the passenger seat... LOL
Haha!! Yo! That would be insane!!

If it was a "drag car" chances are it's a "line-loc" for the front brakes, so you can do burnouts to clean the rear tires off, and to launch off the starting line.

After a quick search, I find that you are absolutely correct. I saw some line lock kits with the exact same push button and wire running down.
Now, I have to check underneath my hood and look for the solenoid, and then see if it is still operational.

Thank you guys for your insight!!

I think it's used to activate the passenger's ejector seat.

My guess is nitrous, or a brake line lock. You can check that by holding the brake down, press the button then release the brakes while still pressing the button. While still holding the button give it some gas and see if the front brake is locked.

We figured it was a line lock. (^^^ thank you guys)
What I didn't know is how it works.
You've explained it quite well. Thank you!!
I will try that when it is safe to do so.

I'm assuming it's disengaged once I release said button, correct?
Then repeat the process every time after?

It’ll disengage when button is released. You only need to use it to do a stationary burnout 😊
you can probably see it under the hood near the master cylinder.
