I solved the problem by buying one of each :eyepoppin The automatic convertible is a great cruiser and the 5 speed coupe is an awesome racer.
I simply had no patience. I didn't have a lot of time to shop around and the dealership gave me a good deal on my 06. Do I wish I'd waited for a 5sp? Yes.

What are you talking about?
1/2 the experience?

That's what I say too! I had to buy off the lot that is why I also had to order a "real" one! hahahaha (this should keep 'em posting)!

Possibly!

Either way, no point in bein' a snooty ol' "drivetrain snob" around here. This is a great car and an excellent experience whether your stir your own gearbox or not.

Pbbbbttt!

I've posted this before. I've lost count of how many 4 banger's I've owned. I tell you some of the toughest races have come against auto sleepers. One wrong shift or clutch slip and you're toast. I'm on the other side of 45 and the auto is a blast!
I have had manuals in my 2000 and 2003 stang gt,,,,Thought I would give a 5 speed automatic a chance.......I would have got the Manual if it was 6 speed and not the same ones that they have been using for the last few years. But since I got a very great price I don't mind the Automatic at alllll.JohnnyT

Now, let's not judge anyone yet. The title of this is, after all, "What is with the Automatics?". He/She is just askin' a simple question, really.

Here y'go fitzy33...this should help explain things for ya:

Yep. I paid cash to own an MUSTANG GT VERT with an automatic tranny. You got a problem with that? Huh punk? Do ya? :sterb: :wavey

After deliverin pizza all day in my 'stang (backup ride is still being worked on) I've somewhat wondered what the hell I was thinking buying a manual. The long shifts kinda get to me after a while and by the end of the day, my legs are a bit sore. Say what you want, but constant 8+ hour driving on short trips with variable speed roads and a numerous stoplights.... you'd wonder too. That said, I love the damn thing & happy I bought a manual (except when I stall it... happens a lot less than when I first got it). My major reason for going manual was twofold: wanted the driving experience & it was cheaper. That said, if I were to buy another one (read: a second one... as in addition to the current one) I'd get an automatic, just for days delivering peoples food... it'd be a bit more comfortable.

Some folks just like the autos... nothin wrong with it... shouldnt have to feel ashamed. Least when your tired, the autos wont screw up & miss a shift. =) This is about as pointless as the GT vs V6 debate in my mind.

I will say this...I don't feel like I've gotten my money's worth on the XCal2 (yet, anyways) because it can do alot of cool stuff for an auto tranny that's useless for a manual. I would LOVE to be able to play with the gear shift schedule on an auto, for instance, trying different settings and finding just that right one. In that sense, I'm envious of two-pedal guys...
I ain't shifting nothing. Even my dirt race bikes were autos. Husqvarnas. Team Shiftless. :winks
My best time is 14.076 "STOCK ",that I got at the track last night, thats good enough to smoke plenty of 5 speed mustangs !
