Which Mustang Events Would You Like to See Here in Newfoundland?

Cathy and I recently moved back to St. John's, Newfoundland and it seems everywhere we turn there are Mustangs from Classics to Late Models. We are both totally amazed at the number of Mustangs we have seen on the island, especially in St. John's and surrounding area.

Several Saturdays ago, I met up with a fellow AFMer on Kenmount Road. Did not know Mitch (92greenstang) at the time but after he pulled up by the side of me in his 1992 Mustang 5.0 coupe and we had a few fun races, we pulled over and started to chat. Mitch and his girlfriend Louise were from Gander and in town for the weekend. When I mentioned AllFordMustangs Mitch said he was a member and started to list off a bunch of members including Denny (eagleautosport), Mark(stlwagon) and Ronda (whiteangel). Seems Mitch and his buddies in Gander are regular members on AFM.

Anyways, after we chatted it up some, we ended up taking some nice pictures of his Mustang with both Mitch and Louise. Louise wanted to wear her bikini for the shoot but Mitch would have nothing to do with it. :) You can check out the pictures in Mitches Gallery.

The next day, on Sunday, we took a drive out to Carbonear and ended up hanging out with a bunch of Mustangers in the Walmart parking lot. While we were there I did a few more photo shoots on three more Mustangs (pictures coming soon) and then we headed off to the local Tim Horton's Coffe shop for the local Sunday night car meet. I wasn't at all surprised to find quite a few Mustangs in the mix. After hanging out with them for awhile, we all hopped in our cars and headed over to the Tim Hortons in Bay Roberts where we hooked up with even more Mustangers and car guys.

Last Thursday night, Cathy and I decided to drop by the weekly car meet at A&W on Kenmount Road. It was packed with everything from classic cars to the latest Shelby GT500 Mustangs. Got to talking with a few of the Mustangers there who expressed a strong interest in having some type of local ALL Ford Mustang event be it a Mustang car show at one of the dealers, an All Ford Mustang cruise across the island, to having a weekly Sunday Morning Mustang Meet at one of the local restaraunts. By the end of the night, we had somewhere between twenty and thirty Mustangers signed up.

Believe me, there is no shortage of Ford Mustang enthusiasts and Mustang owners in Newfoundland, especially in the St. John's and surrounding area.

So whats next? Well thats a good question and one I am asking all of you.

Suggestions so far:

1. Mustangs and Ford Car Show at Dealership (possibly Avalon Ford). Not sure if there is still time to organize this for this year but if the interest is there, we can definitely look into it and see if we can make it happen.

2. Mustang Meet and Greet Island Cruise.
The idea here is that we organize an overnight cruise from St. John's, stopping in Clarenville, Gander and Corner Brooke, where Mustangers across the island would have a chance to meet and hookup. We would work on getting sponsors to provide meals and a reduced hotel rate for cruise members.

3. Sunday Morning Mustang Meet.
Having a regular weekly Sunday Morning breakfast meet where Mustangers can meetup to have breakfast and then head to the parking lot to lift a few hoods, kick some tires and chat. Suggested locations so far is

(a) Don Cherry's on Freshwater Road.
Has a nice dining area with an outside patio and huge parking lot, all of which we could most likely reserve. They also serve a nice breakfast brunch.

(b) Tim Horton's on Kenmount Road.
Big parking lot and hot coffee, etc. Only drawbacks is that they may not have enough inside sitting area for everyone and Tim's tends to be overly busy.

(c) Cross Roads Motel Restaraunt.
Central location, easy access for most people and plenty of parking.

There has been interest expressed in have a separate "Newfoundland" forum here on AllFordMustangs, where Newfoundland Mustangers could hang out and communicate with fellow Ford Mustang owners and enthusiasts here on the island. If there is enough interest in having a "Newfoundland" forum, we can easily make that happen. Just let us know.

Are you interested in seeing some type of All Ford Mustang event here in Newfoundland? If so, what type of event or meet would you like to attend?

How about sharing your opinion on the suggestions so far, or posting any ideas you may have. Calling all Newfoundlanders! Speak up and lets here what you all think?

Cheers,

Hey Peter, good to see you again the other night. Hope you can make it to A&W tomorrow night so we can have a chance to chat some more and catch up. Glad to hear you are onboard for some type of local Mustang meet.

Hi Gord, I am planning to make it tomorrow night and I'll be driving a red 1991 Mustang Hatchback with the licence plate "91 PONY".

Hope to see you guys there!

That depend on my kids. ;) They are the reason that I was out to the lot last Thursday. Actually that was the first time I was there in 7 years.

The only reason my car is even on the road is that my little girl wanted me to do it. I had lost interest, but since she has shown interest I'm starting to get rejuvenated. I have been really enjoying having it on the road again, and may start to work on it again over the winter.

Sounds like there are more Mustangs in your area, Scott - than the state of NJ! :hihi:

How exciting, I'll be keeping an eye out to see what you all decide! Very cool!

Thanks Judi. I can't speak for New Jersey but I can sure tell you Mustangs are running wild here in Newfoundland. :D Seems everywhere you turn, you see another Mustang and there were plenty in attendance at last night's car meet.

Hey Peter, sorry you couldn't make it last night. Cathy and I met up with quite a few Mustangers including Gord and his wife Ami. After the meet ended on Kenmount Road, a bunch of us piled in our cars and headed over to meet up with the crowd in Mount Pearl. Met up with a few more Mustangers. Hopefully next week you can make it.

Gord, great to meet you and your wife Ami last night. Cathy and I really enjoyed ourselves and are looking forward to meeting up with you guys again soon.

Cheers,

i guess only fitting, since the first mustang (number 1) ever sold was in St, John's newfoundland. :shiny:
Absolutely!

Good to hook up with you and Ami again at last Thursday's cruise night. Cathy was disappointed she couldn't make it but as I told her, there's always next Thursday coming up. About the "Mustangs in the Park" idea of having an outing for Mustangers and their family, I added it to the poll to see if anyone else would like to do it as well. So we'll see.

I had a blast cruising over to Mount Pearl A&W. :D After you guys left we cruised over to the old General lot on Topsail road and hooked up with a few more motorheads. :) Only a small crew there. I counted five Mustangs, two Vipers, one Mercedes and forget what the other one was. Hung out for an hour or so then we all cruised over to the east end, going down Water Street and ending up on the KFC lot on Elizabeth Avenue. Unfortunately everyone was gone by the time we got there. Probably let to gruise out to the General lot. Either way we all got out and kicked the tires some more. At the end of it there was only Tim, Shane and myself left standing and that was around 2:00am in the morning. It was fun!

Tim, Shane and I had a good chat about rounding up other Mutangers around the city. Tim suggested we try to get as many Mustangers to meet up somewhere next Thursday and then cruise over all together to the A&W on Kenmount. Hang out for awhile and then we all cruise on over to the A&W in Mount Pearl to see whats happening over there.

Thinking Tim Horton's on Thorburn Road would be a good place for all of us to meet up and then we can cruise down Thorburn and drive up Kenmount Road right into the A&W on Kenmount. Once out of Tim's it is only two right hand turns and no crossing traffic which is especially good considering the traffic in front of A&W on Kenmount. Tim's on Thorburn is also fairly close which is another plus. Sounds like a great idea to me. What do you think?

Would love to hear from more local Mustangers on what everyone thinks of this idea. So anyone want to hook up at Tim's next Thursday night or should we all meet up somewhere else instead?

New and want to meet

Good day all, nice to see so many opportunities to meet. We just got a 1995 GT convertible with 64,000km's on it (I will upload a profile picture when we get one). We are very interested in meets and cruises, and enjoy meeting new people. Let us know when the next meet is and we should be there as long as the weather is good.

Thanks

Hey Scott

Im one of the guys you were talking to at A&W, Ryan Gates, i have the 69' mach 1, 67' coupe and 04' cobra conv. Im in for this thursday if its a go?

Also i think a great location for our sunday meet would be at the mountpearl A&W, huge lot and im sure the owners would be all about it.
