Long story short my son hit a center guard rail in my late father-in-laws 2013 Mustang GT 5.0. When we got to the car the rear tire was across the free way. I have already replaced the front control arm, strut link, and steering link. You can see the rear end in the picture below. Initial plan was to replace the axle, but I was worried with the bend in the part around the axle that I wouldnt be able to do it. I found a rear end for sale 3 hours away and went and picked it up. I have done a decent amount of maintenance, but never anything this big, so didnt really know what I was looking at. You can see the picture of the sticker below, but I believe it is off an older V6 mustang. I have removed the rear end out of my car and the look identical other than the one from our car is a 3.15 gear raito, and the bolt pattern in the plate for the drive shaft is different (mine has 6 smaller bolts, and the replacement has 8 bigger ones). I was told by a family friend that he believes it is from a v6 because of this. I am thinking I can swap the plates, replacing the pinion seal and nut in the process. Should this be ok?

Even though it's from a V6 it may swap out ok. There's quite a difference in the gear ratios that you may or may not like. As long as the rear brakes can be swapped over and your pan-hard bar isn't bent as well I can't see why it won't work. Someone may have a little more knowledge on this than myself

Do you think I can swap the the flange that connects to drive shaft or would I need to find some kind of special conversion flange?

That should swap out fine if they're different

Got both off, and unfortunately they will not swap. Found another rear end on facebook marketplace.

You learned a valuable lesson to always ask what exactly the part came out of before you drive 3 hours to buy it. Even then always verify before making the purchase.
You only have a few years of compatibility. You need an axle from a 2011-14 Mustang GT and check the ratio this time. If you use a different ratio than what came in the car then you'll have to get the PCM reprogrammed to account for it.

Update:

For anyone in the future that may be wondering, you cannot swap the flanges on these rear ends. The sprocket (or whatever you call it) it slides on to are different sizes.

I ended up finding the exact rear end with same gear ratio off a 2012 that I was able to pick up for $600. I bought the other one for $300 and I am going to try and sell for $500. The guy I bought it from had a bunch of mustangs and several parts cars, so he was very knowledgeable and helpful. He did warn me that putting it back in is 10x more challenging then pulling it out. I was able to get it in solo without to many problems doing this:

The strap gave it stability and allowed me to tilt it forward or back as I needed. I got everything in and was luckily able to find the exact refurbished wheels on ebay for around $250 a piece shipped. Had the alignment done yesterday. The advancetrac light came on. I initially was told it may just need to be reset, but it is throwing a code for the rear wheel speed sensor (one side from the crash). I am going to replace that in the next couple days. There is a clicking/banging noise here and there. I think it is either the strut or the strut mount. I think the sound is coming from the rear, but the person that did the alignment said it was the front. I am going to try and identify front/back then just replace the strut.

I do want to clarify in the last pick the other side is still jacked up. Was waiting for a caliper pin to replace the one I broke the bolt off in lol.
