I was wondering what the rpm other s197 drivers shift at i shift right around redline 6000rpm. Is this a good rpm to shift at?

Yes, that's about where I shift. I have the rev limiter set at 6500. I understand that about 200 or 300 rpm's before the limit the computer starts to cut off fuel anyway, so shifting around 6000 makes sense. Plus I think your already past peak HP.

Are you talking about daily driving or racing?

Daily driving is between 2500-3000 for 1st 2nd and 3rd and then maybe 2500 into 4th and 5th.

With a few bolt ons for my 05GT, i had my shift light at 6K but after the cams i had it set at 6500. I determined those from a dyno to see where my peak hp was at.

Depends on how much acceleration I want. Normal driving I shift between 2-3K rpms. When I want to accelerate hard, or just hear the engine growl :D I will usually shift somewhere between 4500 and redline.

Just be careful not to shift at 7K consistently. My bro-in-law did that alot and ruined three trannies. The 5spd manuals in the GT's can't put up with 7K shifts.

In daily driving, my dad shifts at 2K in his GT. I do the same in my V6. Maybe I hit between 2100-2300. Hard driving, I shift mine at 5800. I wish the rev limiter wasn't so low on these cars, they can pull so much more.

you can fix that with a tuner and a custom tune:)

If you drag race at a 1/4 mile track, have 3.55's, stock tires, and a tuner, then set the rev limiter at 7000 rpm and shift at 6500. This allows crossing the finish line in 3rd, which maximizes momentum and minimizes the e.t. by eliminating a 3-4 shift.

6500 is way past peak power in these cars, especially stock ones. 5800 to 6000 is about right. With my mods I usually shift around 6200-6300. The limiter is set at 6600.

7000 on a stock motor is asking for trouble. The valves will begin to float above 6500. I don't even shift mine at 7K.
