Hey everyone, Just would like to know your opinion on what would win between these two cars a 05 mustang gt (auto) vs a 2004 mustang gt (manual). The mods in the 05 are cai with bama tune, pullies, delete plates, catted x pipe with slp loudmouth axleback and 3.73 gears. The 04 i'm not 100% sure on the mods but i think it has lt headers x pipe and axleback, 4.10 gears, throttle body spacers intake tune and i think thats it. It doesn't have any internal mods like cams and its definitely not supercharged. I just know it has a lot of bolt ons. Anyways in a drag race who do you guys think would win?

the 05 would have a significant hp advantage...I"d put my money on that one.

Thanks for your response, I'm the owner of the 05 and was just wondering. The guy in the 04 is near desperate to race with me, mine is in the shop right now but when I get it back I might run him. He says he will bet 50 bucks he will win lol. So I had to ask what the outcome would be.

id say the 05 unless the 04 has drag radials. with 4.10s its just gonna spin.

I'm calling this a driver's race, but I'd actually give the edge to the 04. Most of you are considering HP, but the weight and suspension advantages of the 04 at the track will eat up that HP advantage quickly.

If he can drive, he's going to put it on you coming off the tree and you'll be playing catch up the entire way down the track. You may catch him, you may not, but it'll be a close race if he can drive.

My car ran 12.9's with less mods than he has on BFG Drag Radials and a suspension setup for autocross.

The 5 speed driver's skill is the deciding factor in this one. If he's got experience at the track, he's going to take your lunch money. If he's a goofball who can't drive, you're going to motor past him.

Just look at my sig vs. the guy above me.... That shows how much different these cars truly are.

Thanks guys for your replies. I got a chance to check this guys car out today. He has bald tires, and his mods consist of a throttle body cold air intake pullies x pipe and axleback 4.10 gears and i think it has a chip. For some reason i got a little more confident today told him i'd race next weekend because i can't this week i'm going on a trip. Yes i know about the weight advantage, he's like 200 pounds lighter then me but have that feeling i'd be able to take him. He doesn't spend alot of time at the track, neither do I but like automatic doesn't require a hole lot of skill to drive lol.

well with bald tires the race will go your way all the way. no way is he ever gonna grip with bald tires and 4.10s.

seriously though, make sure those bald tires aren't drag radials, because they will still hook great with no tread left. If they're bald regular old street radials, with 4.10's he's not going anywhere fast.

very true plus those 05-09 gt mustangs are kinda slow in auto trim, i think i would take the 04 on this one.

I don't believe they are drag radials. Just say they were though and they had full grip, With his mods being 4.10's throttle body intake x pipe axleback and chipped beat my automatic 05 on drag radicals with 3.73 gears, intake, tuned, delete plates, pullies, x pipe and axleback? I don't have drag radicals this is just for future preference. Sorry for all the questions, can only race like next week or something so gotta keep myself occupied till then. lol

i need suspension and definitely radials with these 4.10s. i have no problems beating almost everyone i race against however.

if it turns out to be a good race where both hook cars hook well, ill give it to the 04.

If the '04 hooks, you're not going to catch him. You'll be catching up, but run out of track before you do. My car with those mods, full weight, 4.10's and drag radials ran [email protected]

I've scorched those gts with my Infiniti and it's more like your car than his...really you should have the advantage with better engine management and power, also you just have to stand on it and hold on.

I've driven a 03 with some good mods and then I had my 05GT. Since you have the intake and tune, which makes a huge difference on the 3v cars, and other mods. I think you can take him. With auto, you can't really go wrong but with a 5 speed, there's a chance of not leaving off the line right or missing a shift. The weight difference isn't much and the 30rwhp, or a tad more, that you have over him will make that up. Stock vs stock, the 05 has better rear suspension set up. Stock, down to the paper filter and tires, my 05GT ran a 13.9 at 101mph with a 2.0 or 2.1 60'. There were some guys that got down to a mid 13 stock everything. I've never seen a 99-04 do that fully stock. With CAI, tune, deletes, catback, udp's and stock tires, i was running a 13.1 at 104mph with a 2.1 60'. With stage 3 cams, steeda lower control arms, stock tires and 3.73's, i ran a 12.9 at 109mph with a 2.2 60'. wanted to get some DR's but by the time i bought the rims and DR's, i was selling it due to going to Korea.
But just race and find out, have fun with it.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Yes i'm defiantly going to race him. Ill keep yeas updated, I just got back from a camping trip now i'm waiting for my car to have the gears installed followed by a 2 day break in period then down to business. I'll let yeahs know the outcome. thanks again for the responses!

I ran 13.8 bone stock on crappy 245 Kumhos. I have seen ONE person get a 13.6 bone stock with Drag Radials.

I ran [email protected] with just midpipe, tune, CAI, gears and drag radials.

So it's possible, but most people are scared to drive these cars (regardless of year) hard enough to get their true potential to show.
