i just got 3.73 gears and have been looking around for a garrage that installs them. I have been trying to stay clear of dealerships because i herd that there prices are outragous even though the ford dealership by my house has a mustang specialist. I got a few price quotes today from indapendent garrages and they ranged from 500 -600??? that seems really high!! ive read some posts online that said they had them installed for around 300. is that just wishfull thinking on my part or it cost 600 dollars?? im getting them put in either way i just don't want to get ripped off!!

It depends on where you live. In my area (central CA), most shops charge $500-600 dollars for the install ALONE, no parts.

I live in TN and those prices sound outrageous to me, I just had a 3.73 gear put in my car. Parts, labor, and tax came to 505 dollars total, and this guy is the best in my area. I don't know where you live but I would die if it were that high here.

Well if you compare CA prices to places on the east coast, of course the CA prices will be higher. IE, wage prices are different here. Houses are more expensive, as well as food, gas, EVERYTHING...

From all the posts I've read here in Columbus OH. I wouldn't pay more than $300.00. But again that does have a lot to do with where you live. I'd find out what guys around where you live are willing to pay. That will be your best bet.

i gues prices really do vary depending on where u live. i live in the worcester area for all u that know where that is in massachusetts. the lowest price i've found is 400 dollars just for the install not including parts. i have all the parts anyway so that doesn't matter. anybody live in mass that has gotten their gears installed for cheaper????

Some of you guys are saying 200+ parts then the total being 250, what gears are you getting? The ford racing ones with the install kit runs more than 100 bucks

I think they are just refering to the install kit, minus bearing, not the actual gear itself.

I called the dealership I purchased the car from and they quoted me $350 for labor. I then got it done by a friend of a friend for $95. He only want $75 but it was such a PITA due to the previous owner's carelessness, so I through in an extra $20. I guess it helps to know people who know people :laughlitt .

I live in Ft Lauderdale and the last time I priced it, was right around $300 as well. $500 if you went to Ford dealership or Steeda's main shop right here. The labor rate at the high end shops are something like 78 an hour, and they charge ya based on pre-determined time whether it takes that or not, while other smaller shops might charge you for actual time.

Sorry -- I was going by the title of the thread: "price of a gear install".
My TOTAL gear price was:

Gears: $179
Install (labor): $200
Misc. installed parts (shims, gear oil, etc.): ~$50

So about $430 when all was said and done.
