It all depends on the years of the cars involved, and the mods involved.

But stock for stock, slowest to fastest:

96-98 GT
99-04 GT
96-98 Cobra (very close to the 99-04 GT though, doesn't take much to beat them in stock form)
3V GT (again, very close to the 99-04 GT, doesn't take much to beat them in stock form)
99-01 Cobra
03-04 Mach 1
03-04 Cobra

Reactions: Truth in Ruin
Why are we concerned with just the engines? They also put the 3V engine in a pig of a car compared to the 96-04 cars. Anything gained from the 3V over the Mach's 4V (if anything) would be offset and then some by the weight of the car. Stock 3V GT's here all run like 13.8-14.0's, where the 2V GTs stock run 13.8-14.2's.

So where's all that extra 50hp going? It's all ate up by the weight of the car. Engine isn't everything.

A friend of mine's Mach 1 is putting down 310 to the wheels with a catback and a tune, so I have to concur.

Again, the engine isn't everything, it's the platform it's in also. Stock GTs can hit 13.8 with the 3V, that's about it. Stock Mach 1's will smoke a stock '05+ GT without breaking a sweat. So who cares what the HP is rated at?

I have the same problem with the New Camaro. 420+ HP, and it only beats a 2010 GT by .1 seconds with over 100 HP more in all the tests.

Plus, the Mach 1 is soooooooo much sexier looking than the '05+ GT.

As far as which looks better, that's all personal preference. I know people who swear that the aero (94-98) SN-95's are the best looking Mustang ever, when I think (excluding the Mustang II), they are the ugliest Mustangs ever built.

I think in stock GT form, the New Edge is the best looking, which is why I bought one. I can afford to drive a 2010 if I wanted to easily, but I bought my Bullitt because I think it has much more style and class. I also think the 2005+ Mustangs are too big. And I think the 2010 taillights are horrible, although the front end is pretty cool. I do like the looks of the newer Shelbys, but not the GTs.

It's all about what you like, but stock for stock, the Mach 1 will absolutely destroy an '05+ GT, no doubt about that. I don't care what the dyno says, it's what happens when the tires are rolling on pavement that matters, not what the rollers say. I run 13.3's with my puny 256rwhp Bullitt, and I have absolutely wasted many 300+ rwhp S197's. (so they say)

It seems too many people put too much stock in what the dyno says. The dyno is a tuning tool, we don't race on the dyno. It's what happens at the track that matters.

The New Edge is more boxed off, not a single body panel is the same on the outside between the New Edge and Aero SN95's.

I hate the interior in both of them, except for the Mach 1 and Bullitts. Those are the 2 best interiors ever put in the Mustang. The seats are actually supportive and comfortable, unlike any other GT seats, and the gauges are awesome.

I made not a single ignorant comment.

Car and Driver rated the 3V Mustang at a 13.8. The rated the '01 GT as a 14.1, and the '01 Bullitt as a 13.8. The rated the Mach 1 as a 13.3, and I can't remember what they rated the 03-04 Cobra at, but we all know that it's the fastest of the bunch.

Every car will run differently depending on many factors, we all know that, but hands down, all cars in stock form, the Mach 1 IS a faster car than the '05+ GT, which is slightly ahead of the New Edge GT. There's no arguing that fact, it's been tested to death. If you think the '05+ is faster than the Mach 1 stock for stock, you're either crazy or stupid.

And as far as looks, everyone is going to like something different, that's what makes the world an interesting place. If everyone drove a white '05 GT, it would be a boring world. We've all got different tastes in looks, but stock for stock, there is no grey area, we all know the pecking orders for cars. Once you start modding, the lines cross and blur together.

Well, the answer to this thread was really simple.......

4V>3V>2V

I'm a 2V owner, and I can admit to that. It just seems that some 3V owners can't. I've even admitted that stock for stock, a 3V should be faster than my car.

I agree that the S197 has some nice touches in stock form that make it a bit better than a New Edge GT. However, when I was driving an '09 GT, I thought that it handled sluggishly, and you could really feel the weight, BUT, again, that was a stock, off the shelf GT. I was used to driving my '01 Bullitt with Konis and Vogtlands, subframe connectors, lower control arms, etc, and it's been so long since I've driven a stock New Edge GT, but I still remember them being pigs as well in the handling department. The Bullitt/Mach 1 suspension is so much better from the factory than the GT, it's rediculous. Then add on some aftermarket goodies, and it's awesome. I'm sure that the '05+ would react the same way, and I'm still waiting to drive a stock 08-09 Bullitt to see if the changes between the GT and Bullitt suspension-wise were just as dramatic as the 2001 GT and Bullitt are.

The interior of the S197 is much better than a standard SN95, but I still give the edge to the '01 Bullitt, and 03-04 Mach 1's for having the best seats ever put in a Mustang. They are leaps and bounds above any of the SN95 GT or S197 GT seats. Again, haven't gotten to sit in a S197 Bullitt yet.

I think what it all comes down to is what you like and personal opinion, and we know what they say about opinions.:yup:

To be honest, I wouldn't buy a 2001 GT. I would buy a Mach 1 or Cobra however. I bought the Bullitt, because it was a special edition, 1 year production run (yeah, we were lied to). I hated my '99 GT in the handling and interior department when it was stock, and the Bullitt corrected all those deficiencies, so I was hooked. Not the fastest girl at the ball, but she normally gets more attention, just because she's rare around here.

I could have afforded almost any Mustang I wanted, honestly. (well, maybe not the Super Snake :shigrin), but I chose the '01 Bullitt for one reason:

When they were released in 2001, I was driving a 1999 Mustang GT, and was not financially able to buy one, although I always wanted one. I was in the market for a new toy, now that I can afford one after retiring from the Army, and getting one of those government contract jobs everyone told me about for years...:cooldude: I looked at quite a few cars, I actually went to the dealership to look at a GTO with heads, cams, and intake, when I spotted the Bullitt. I flashbacked to 2001, when I would have given vital body parts to own one, and ended up forgetting about the GTO, and walked out that day with a 2001 Bullitt with 59k miles on the clock.

I haven't regretted that decision once. Unique car, more power than 90% of cars on the road, and easily modifiable.

Now, while I'm not a big fan of the '05+ GTs, whenever the GT500KR pulls up to our Mustang meets, I get a little jealous, I have to admit. Now that's a sweet car.

First off who wants to race around stock cars lol.. but i have a 02 gt straight pipe header back, trac bars and intake thats it, i can beat 07 3v motors all day, personally the motor is stupied they made it bigger but the car is a tank.. i love cobras and will have a supercharger on mine one day.. and mach1 is pointless to buy the only difference is 40hp to the crank and shinny interior trim and a trunk with no wing for 5-6 grand than a gt.. its all about what you want i guess but if i could go back i would have bought a cobra over my gt anyday.. cause its worth it.. but the new body style is gay and the mach1 is way more money for stupied little things..if you know how to drive you can do about anything as far as it comes to racing stock to stock
In the immortal words of Flava: Wooooooooooooooww!!!!!!!!!

Please come here to learn, not to give advice yet. The Mach 1 is a totally different animal than the GT. Stock New Edge GTs dyno between 220 and 230 rwhp. Stock Mach 1's dyno up around 290 rwhp or better, and have an engine that responds to mods better than the GT. As far as the interior, you obviously haven't sat in a Mach 1 or Bullitt, those 2 cars have the best seats ever put in a Mustang. Other additions to the Mach 1 are: Tokico shocks and struts and special linear rate springs that are stiffer than 90% of aftermarket springs. They also have upgraded swaybars and they have 13" brakes, just like the Cobra.

As you can see, I think having 60 more rwhp, a better interior, better brakes and world's better suspension is worth the extra cost over a GT.
