I'm looking to add some gauges to my '86 and can't decide where to put them. 'A' Pillar maybe? Putting them in the cowl where the wipers are would be cool but my 2 1/2" cowl hood would hit them as it was lifted. The other area that would look sharp is in the flat spot above the glove box but I'm hesitant to drill holes thru it. Hmmm.

Where did you guys put all your misc. gauges?

This is a tough one, but I have the A Pillar Pod by the drivers window. I like it there, but i really like it when people have them in the hood on the outside of the windshield too, but it looks good int he middle of the dash as well. Decision, decisions.

No.....no. I mean in the cowl hood like you were saying before, but it wounldnt fit or something. Ive seen a lotta cars in car shows with that, looks really cool.

I have a 3 gauge A pillar and seem easier to read gauges then looking through the windshield.

I've got two gauges mounted in a Autometer pillar pod currently. I'm working on modifing an extra stock '79-86 gauge panel to hold a 3-3/8" tach and speedo and four 2-1/16" gauges in place of the stock gauges also. Hope to have that completed in the next couple weeks.

That's a pretty sharp set up Bill. I really like the look of having them in the cowl either like yours or in one of the CGC cowls. Mine's a 2 1/2" hood too and yours opens alright - I'd better have a closer look.

So all you did to install was chop out a bit of the cowl, fab up a plate to mount the gauge cups and that's about it??

I cut open the cowl with a high speed dremel. The mounting bracket is bolted (screwed) to the interior wall under windshield in two places. Each one directly under each gauge. I then mounted a cross brace for added stability. I think you can see the cross brace in the photos. The lines go directly out the firewall with rubber grommets to prevent chafing. The lighting was done in series and covered with plastic wire tubing (covers). Remember that the gauges must sit lower than the top of the cowl for hood clearance. I can see the gauge description, but nothing below it.
