I just removed all the hatch junk- the carpet and seats. I want to do a rear battery set up, where should I put the battery in your opinion,

  • above the right rear tire
  • in the spare tire area
I think Ill try to have the hatch area carpetted with thin carpet, like the carpet you make subwoofer boxes with. Not sure. :headscratch:

I put mine in the spare tire area then cut a piece of plywood to lay over the top. Drilled 4 holes 2 for ther bat terminal and 2 for the cables and connected them. If you put in the spare tire area its just a little bit to tall thats why i drlled the holes. Im pretty happy with it You dont see the battery at all and you can still use the trunk. Good luck
I dont understand, 4 holes for what??:headscratch:
spare tire spot

get you some plywood and start cutting..
also i would get a mat and lay it under the battery
something like that foam sound matting
I dont understand, 4 holes for what??:headscratch:
2 for terminals
2 for cables..

i guess the terminals were taller than the trunk so it went through plywood

and then he ran cables under carpet and under board i guess

he kinda said in his sentence
right. okay, who else has an opinion on what I should do? Im thinking the rear right over the right tire. Dont know why, I guess cause I read thats where its good. Dont know quite yet. I like the idea of having it not in the spare tire area, I can use that area to put things.. dont know...
What would you but in the spare tire area besides a spare tire? I only suggest that area because if you ever wanted to put a system in some guys like to pop there trunks and with it in the spare tire well theres no ugly battery hanging out in the corner. Just my opinion though
MINE sits above the carpet by the right side corner close to the tail light

and i wish it was in the spare tire area
hmmm well, IM still debating it.

Heres what one guy did, just like ^^^

Torque from the drive shaft tends to lift the right rear tire and plant the left rear tire. This is why open rear ends always burn the right tire.

If you want to move a battery for maximum starting traction it needs to sit over the right tire as far to the rear as possible and as high as possible. A few feet beyond the tail light is not even far enough back. :hihi:

When I finally relocate my battery in my latest project car it will be back near the right tail light in a nice custom metal box with a vent to the outside.

placing the battery over the right rear tire will provide the most beneifical use for weight transfer.....

since you have a hatch be sure to use a sealed box and vent to the outside of the car.....
I would suggest doing it the right way, which is in a box meant to hold a battery. Putting carpet over it will keep any heat in there, which will erode it's life. It also needs to be vented, batteries emit vapors that need to be evacuated. Not to mention a battery with plywood over the top of it is butt ugly and dangerous.
If you ever think of going to a drag strip and have moved the battery, an approved battery box and external cut off will be required or you'll be escorted to the gate.
Thanks guys, I was thinking over the right rear tire . I also want to do it right and get a box and vent it . :bigthumbsup Ill have to remember to do a external cut off also, is that the switch near the license plate?
walmart sells battery boxs

marine and car
so if you have a big battery you can get the marine one

i paid 6.99$ for mine
Well, I want to get something nice, well see... thanks for the tip though!
