Hey Ric,
I just installed a MSD ignition system on my 66 289 and man what a difference. I highly recomend it. I did some research of my own first and after talking with several race mechanics they all said it is by far the best one out there. Make sure to match it with the right coil or you may run into some problems. There is a list of coils that comes in the instruction booklet showing which one will match your system.

Good luck

Which is best depends on what you're after. For a simple daily driver, the Pertronix is probably the best. Inexpensive, easy to install, durable, looks stock.

If you're after the most performance oriented system, the MSD is probably the best. Crane also makes some excellent systems.

Hi Mark,

Did you fit one of their distributors as well or just a module and trigger?

Thanks.:bigthumbsup

Hi,

She's going to be seeing a little strip action occasionally so it sounds like the MSD is the one to go for.

Thanks.:bigthumbsup

I agree. The complete MSD system will give you a bit more power. More importantly, it will be a lot more consistant in the upper rpm ranges. You'll get a solid spark all the way to redline.

Thanks for the info', just one other thing, does the distributor have to be changed to MSD too?
Hey Ric,
Had to get some work done yesterday. Did'nt forget about you though. Now, about the distributor. You can keep your stock one, but I would recomend changing the points to the electronic conversion setup. That's what I did and it works just great. Remember, the distributor is just a housing. It's whats inside that makes the difference. Don't spend the extra money on a fancy looking distributor if your trying to cut cost. Also, most of the name brand electronic ignition conversion kits perform the same, so take your pick.

Hope this helps
