running cats or not? x has alot of pop when down shifting. H is smooth. Ive had both with no cats. Go H!
If you are looking for the newest version of the Bullitt, it already comes with an H-Pipe & when you slap on a good axle-back setup, it screams. In my personal opinion, it would be a waste of money to go out & buy an X-Pipe when the exhaust already sounds so good & is already a good breather.

If you're looking for loud though, you might want to look elsewhere as far as mufflers are concerned. I've had the Flowmaster's & they didn't impress me. If you want neck-turning sound, take a look at the SLP Loudmouth's. I've never heard anything more beautiful with an H-Pipe than the SLP's. Very minimal drone as well which is always a good thing. :bigthumbsup

With 40s or even 44s, the x pipe will be more raspy/louder than h pipe:bigthumbsup
A general rule of thumb if you want a nice sounding exhaust is:

X Pipe for straight through mufflers like the Borlas, Magnaflows or SLP

H Pipe for chambered mufflers like the MACs and Flowmasters.

Using an X with a chambered muffler results in drone from hell, and a lot of popping and a lot of raspiness.

Just remember that loud doesn't always mean it sounds good. I personally say the Loudmouths have the right name S.L.P.- Sounds Like Poop. But the Loudmouth 2's aren't as bad, and the SLP PowerFlow setup actually sounds great.

Nothing worse than an exhaust you can't stand to listen to. My 1st setup was offroad X and Flowmaster 10's, and it was horrible. Loud and raspy, and the drone was horrible. I added cats to my X, and it made it a lot better. Then I swapped out the X for and H, and aaahhhh...... perfection.

this is for a 2001 bullitt that im in the market for one
i should redo my question. which sounds louder and better with flowmasters. not slp i hate that noise
u guys say if i do flowmaster super 40 or super 44 is hould do the H-pipe
ps this is with no catts
Go with the 40's I think they have a nice tone.
If you go with flowmasters, get an H-Pipe, you'll be much happier.
youtube TheKillerSN95 and hear my car it sounds good for what it is.. i have H-pipe no cats and SLP LM1s and i only get a poop every blue moon.. i like flowmaster but after the SLP i was HOOKED....:bigthumbsup
hey mean chad
u mean the super 40's?
i had the original 40's on my 2001 gt and im trying to go for deeper sound which would be the super series
I have magnaflow catted tru-flow x-pipe with magnaflow cat back system, sounds awsome when you give it some, but still quiet enough on hyway with no drone:gringreen

I had the original 40's on my car before I went with a full exhaust instead of weld in mufflers. I now have JBA headers,Magna-flow X-pipe,and Magna-flow Magna-packs and could not be happier I had a lot more drone when I just had the original 40's I have a lot less drone now and its a lot louder.

ditch that x pipe for an h pipe and you'll have one hell of a deep sound. my flowmaster original 40s are some of the deepest mufflers i have ever heard. especially at idle.
well im selling my 01 gt. just waiting for the guys loan to come thru so im looking for a 2001 bullitt and only have $8,000 so would have to buy one with 80k to 90k miles
but yea so im trying to find the best option with flowmasters for the bullitt i yet to get
i want loud but deep sounding. hate my x on the mustang i sold.
so the difference between the 40 super 40 and 44 are just tone or which of the three is the loudest.?

yes it will be more raspy sounding because that's what x-pipes do,, but if you use an x-pipe with flowmasters, you will break the baffles in the mufflers and you will hear lots of rattling from you exhaust.. so you pretty much have to use an H-pipe unless you want your car sounding like a POS!

x-pipes work best with a non chambered design muffler or resonator like SLP..

x-pipes are more raspy and a little bit louder because the exhaust flow runs into each other in the middle of the pipe

h-pipes give you a more equal and deeper tone

jegs and summit make good h pipes. stay away from BBK and pypes. bullitt had some bad experiences with BBK, and i know a guy who's pypes off road h started rusting on him in less than a year. and he lives in texas, with relatively low moisture and zero salt.

my jegs piece has help up to new england weather for 2 years now with no rusting. i got it for $75 though off of someone that didn't want it. i did however need o2 sensor extenders for the front o2 sensors.

Yeah the BBK and Pypes H pipes have terrible quality and the fitment is the worst.
If you get a Mac H pipe definitley get the coated version or it
will rust on you.
I think a H pipe would sound best with a chambered muffler like the
Flowmaster 40 series mufflers.
