Since I want to have 550-600rwhp safetly i need a built bottom end. id thought i might as well up the displacement at the same time. haha no replacement for displacement. what is a good stroker kit? by good i mean bullet proof quality at a good price by people with excellent costumer service. the Saleen 302 heratige models got my really interested in a 5.0 stroker kit. A shop in Texas or Indiana is prefered, although im willing to travel a little bit. I plan on moving to Austin next summer and im from Indiana incase you are wondering. im planning on buying this sometime next year.

Theres a lot of guys using a 302 stroker it in their cars, but also some of them are getting problems with their knocking sensors at 302 cubes, so a solution for that is using a 298 stroker kit.

I ordered a 298 kit and will be installed next week.

ive done pretty extensive research on this, as i too want a 5.0. for a stroker kit by itself (ie: you are using your original block or have another block already) sean hyland motorsports has some that are very nice, strong, and reasonable. They have kits from 5.0 to 5.2 if you are willing to sleeve the cylinders. (which i wouldnt do)

a better option if you are NOT going to use your oem block is to just purchase a forged stroker shortblock from MMR. (Modular Mustang Racing) I say this for several reasons:

1. Professionally built and tested. (these guys are all over these modular motors and are making awesome HP with them.)

2. Rated for a certain HP, so you know what your limits are.

3. More economical. At 4k for the aluminium 5.0 850 HP version, i doubt very seriously that you can find an aluminum block, find a 5.0 stroker kit with that HP rating and all the needed essentials, pay for the machine work and assembly, and beat that 4K price.

4. Less down time on your car. You build the motor at your pace, then swap it over the weekend. Then you have your original as a spare!!

I plan on purchasing a shortblock from them, then finding some OEM heads and reworking them myself, then building and wrapping up the top end with a nice s/c for a bow, and installing over a weekend.:happydance:

its all pricey, but this seems to be the best option.

oh, and almost all the stroker kits i have seem claim a 50 hp increase at the flywheel with the new displacement. ill buy that....

There has been some comments on MMRs work. I know the Livernoise aren't cheep but they are who I would go with. And they are up in you neck of the woods when you get back home. NAVY???

I'd get a forged stroker shortblock before doing my own engine if I had to do over. And 298 is the limit without some cylinder sleeving.

Have you read what some people have dealt with at MMR? I wouldnt send anyone there for an engine.

yes im navy, made E-5 in 2.5 yrsas a gunnersmate. so sounds like it be better of getting a forged block that is prebuild iwth the stroker kit already installed. sorry im an FNG is that what you guys mena by short block. whats the differnce betweem short block, long block and a plain crate engine? i want the aluminium block. what about the Saleen 302s aren't those stroker engines? im not really into sleeving unless it was a ceramic coating. sticking two different metals together isn't a good idea unless its and alloy. its a recipe for disaster IMO.

shortblock= block, pistons, rods, crank, rings, oil pump all assembled

longblock= block, pistons, rods, crank, rings, oil pump, heads, cams, timing gears all assembled

crate motor= entire complete engine minus alternator. power steering etc.

I would think about other sources for a stroker motor than Saleen. The motor they include in the PJ is not impressive and there are better options out there. l

i´d give a call to Livernois and MMR, cant go wrong with either.

i have yet to see any issues with any MMR blocks. Mine is making incredible power and they are less expensive over the other places that build short blocks.

Sean Hyland is garbage stay away from those blocks they will pop because they use Probe Pistons. You want JE or Manley Pistons.

i have yet to see any one have issues with any MMR blocks mine is rated for 1100hp and I will be pushing it close to that...

where are you stationed? I am also an E5 in the Navy hopefully this sept an E6 but I am a recruiter in clovis,ca

Only issue with MMR is they're sometimes a little slow. Haven't heard of any complaints re: quality.

Have the MMR 302 stroker model 950 for a turbo. Also have their stage II heads/cams. Can't complain. I don't do any of the car work myself. My master Ford mechanic is well impressed with the quality.

Pushing the block hard at 20 lbs of boost (dyno at 18 degrees timing 680/735). Just started to add nitrous. Only a 50 shot right and car didn't actually finish the pass, backed off at the end. But that was because of a fuel/safety cut-off switch issue. Melted a plug but no motor issues.

i also saw Steeda had Eagle stroker kits and they said all u need do was spec the engine and put it in. is that correct or should i also get some other stuff?
