Which one would you buy?

Hi. I am relatively new to the Mustang world. I would like some advice. Both of these are priced the same. Both has clean car fax and look nice. Neither one seem to be modified.

I am looking at a 2014 Mustang V6 Premium Convertible - Gotta Have it Green with black rocker stripes, Black top, Automatic, leather seats, bluetooth - 44,000 miles.

Also looking at a 2009 Mustang GT Premium Convertible (45th Anniv) , Torch Red (no stripe) with Black top, V8, Automatic, leather seats, 44,000 miles.

Are either of these going to be collectors? Or be worthy of show and shines or cruise ins? We are looking for a sunny weekend cruiser & to join a local Mustang cruising club.

Which one would you go for?

Thank you.

In my opinion, neither will ever be a collector vehicle. The 09 is going to obviously much faster, but the 14 is a much nicer looking car, with a killer color. Both will be a blast to drive, but you have to decide if the extra horsepower and performance is what you want over the V6. If your age and insurance premiums play into it, the V6 would be the wiser choice.

Just saying again, this is my opinion.

Hi, as far as horsepower goes the v6 in the 2014 actually puts out 5 more horses at 305 vs 300. I'm not sure I would purchase either as a potential collector or an investment but you can have a lot of fun with either one. My pick would be the 09 because you can get a real nice exhaust tone out of it and I like the look but it all comes down to personal preference. Best of luck and let us know what you decide.

Go for the V-8 -- you'll be glad you did. Plus the '09 is better looking.

Neither will be a collectible in your lifetime. Sorry, 95% of car guys, have no respect for late model V6s. Late model being the key word.
If you love horsepower at a premium, look at 11/12 5.0s. They can be had for a reasonable price and make for a great weekend cruiser. Personally I'm not a fan of the styling, the looks or the sound of them. I could have bought a 5.0 years ago but not interested at all. The 05-09 V8 with the right exhaust, will get you more affirmation nods at your weekend cruise than the 6er, IMHO.
Also, our model years are becoming less sought after because most people are horsepower whores.
Which means I believe you have more opportunities to impress at the car shows with a 4.6 than the "Oh look, another 5.0!!"
Sometimes......it's not all about horsepower.

Agree. With the right exhaust, you can rev up that 4.6 at car shows and make the girls cum in their panties (if they wear any). 😉
It isn't all about HP and the 4.6 3V doesn't lack in that department especially with some simple bolt ons.
Being less sought after works to the advantage of the '05-'09, as there's an abundance of inexpensive used parts to be found in the junkyards.

I would go for the older V8 also, because a Mustang without the V8 sound just wouldn't be right for me.

But you might want to compare the interiors before you decide, if that is important to you.
I prefer the looks of the 2014, sportier...especially the GT.

The OP was asking about a 2014 V6 and a 2009 GT. Looks like your thumbnails are for the 2014 V6 and the 2005 - 2009 V6.

The 2005 - 2009 GT had fog lights in the grill, which gave it a more muscular look.

I had an '11 V6 and loved it. But I can definitely say I love my '14 GT a whole lot more!

I know I'm not answering the question but I can't just let this go without at least saying you should consider just saving a few more bucks and waiting out a really great price on an 11-14 GT. I think in the long run you would be happier.

All the best.

I like the look of the 05-09 GT. The interior is plain and the car lacks all those buttons of the later models. Basically its the closest Ford ever came to repro the 65-68 Fastbacks inside and out.

Sorry 6 cylinders are for kids.
Pick which one you think will be viewed best for show and shines or cruise ins.
Neither will ever be worth much. Personally I'd go with the newer car as it's less likely to have problems...being the last year of a 10 year production run of this body.

Here's an example, 2008 Bullitt, very low mileage, sold recently and did not bring a lot of money, no where near it's original cost.

You want appreciation: Try looking at Porsche (certain models only).

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I ended up purchasing the red 2009 Mustang GT convertible. It is supposed to be delivered next week. Now, I have to add on a stall to our garage and my next question is how wide is a Mustang with its doors open? I was hoping that a 12' wide stall would do it, but I'm wondering if I will have to go 14'. Thanks again!

I have a 24' wide 2-car garage, and half of it is a bit tight for the Mustang, especially with the doors open . . . if I had the option to add 2 more feet, I would do it for sure
I'm late to the party, but I would of said the 2009 for what your intentions and crowd of people you'll be around with it.

I haven't measured, but the S197 Mustang is not a small car, and the doors are large and open real wide. If you want to fully open the doors, the wider the space the better. I can't fully open my door when my wife is also parked in our garage.

12' is minimal so go with the 14' wide.

And congratulations on your selection.
Congrats on the new to you GT! That would have been my recommendation. I drive an 07GT premium convertible and love it. When the 05-09 body style came out I first saw it at the New York auto show and had to have one, took a while but now I do and have no regrets, this is my 6th mustang over the years that include a 67 GT a 72 Mach 1 and a 87 GT the 07 drives the nicest. Have fun !

Glad you joined the dark side and got a V8 like us. The sales guys, as well as v6 owners love to say, oh my v6 has got 305 hp plus bolt ons so dont think i cant get you.

Well there are two problems with this story, This little thing called torque, and this little thing called a GT having its power a whole lot earlier in the power curve.

Paper is where the V6 gets a lot of its credit, and paper is where 95% of that credit stays and dies. Compare dyno sheets and its plain as day.

Add proper bolt ons to the GT, and a good tune, and the v6 wont even come close on paper anymore.

Pro Tip, lol, No throttle body spacers, upgraded throttle bodies, chips, special filters, injectors, etc on a stock form GT, just get a roush or airaid cold air intake(that enclose the filter area), yes the ones that require a tune(and dont use the spacer to skip getting a tune), perhaps headers, axle backs, and of course the tuner and tune, and call it a day. With those items, even leaving off the exhaust items, the car will have a night and day difference in performance, it will be new to you, for the second time.

The 05-09 GT has a lot of throttle smoothing, and general granny'ing on the factory tune, mostly so morons dont get in, punch the gas and crash into a tree before they get off the car lot. A tune will tighten things up a lot, especially on an automatic. Make sure to run 91 and that the tune you get is for 91, if your not out to mod, just get BAMAs 91 RACE tune and call it a day, i opted for Dyno tuning but BAMAs tune also works well on mostly stock cars. And after loading the tune, be careful with the gas pedal, it is much more angry about being touched, sensitivity and throttle response much higher and easier to have a little accident backing out the first time you run the tune.
