whining coming from front end

I'm getting a whining noise from the front end. Sounds like from the front right side. Most noticable at 40 to 55 mph. When I turn the wheels to the left while driving is fades somewhat. I've got 156k and not had any trouble. Car does not chimmy or vibrate. Just put in new clutch.

This might be a silly question, but... did the noise start as soon as you replaced the clutch?

Other possibilities: out of steering fluid, power steering pump damage, steering rack/pinion unit damage, idler pulley bearing, tensioner pulley bearing, mechanic accidentally installed a supercharger...

Thanks for the suggestions. No, this noise was there before the new clutch. I'll check out your other suggestions. I have power steering fluid also. :)
did it supercharge itself overnight? :hihi: if so you have one amazing car
I had a whine that sounded like I was out of steering fluid, except that turning the wheels didn't cause it to groan. When I stuck my ear up close I determined it was coming from the idler pulley. Easy fix! I hope yours is that easy.
if it fades when you turn one direction its a wheel bearing in most cases. my car is doing it too tho and i have replaced both the front bearings and i know everything else i know is good. there is a sound coming from the tranny so im thinking that is what im hearing. hopefully yours is just wheel bearings. very easy to replace on my 2000. it literally took me 10 minutes per side.

Wheel bearings. Not a real big deal to replace. I replaced my right one last year i think
