Why aftermarket HID's are considerably different than OEM HID's

Bored at the Ford dealer today while getting my airbag recall fixed I walked around and checked out all the Mustangs (someone was in the process of buying the GT500 in one of the offices so I couldn't molest that).

While looking at them, I noticed that one car, the most BOTTOM of the line V6 out of all of them, was the only one with different headlights. I figured since this was the bottom of the barrel Mustang out of the entire lot that it had different lights because they were subpar... and come to find out that one of the THREE options it had was HID headlights

After examining them though (I'm attaching my phone pics), I can see why the aftermarket HID's don't compare to the OEM ones. The aftermarket ones are really just super bright bulbs but still use the same housing. The OEM HID's actually have a special housing that reflects the light correctly and better.

That'll be the one Mustang owner that doesn't understand what we are all talking about when we refer to our dim headlights. At least on the GTs, we can hit the fog lamp switch and feel like our lights are on.

When just my lights are on, I swear, they don't illuminate the road in front, at all. Maybe that's good because they *should* be illuminating the stuff above the road, but we have no streetlights out here, on the highway, so the road looks much darker. The fogs really save me.

With just the lights, you can't see the lines! The fog lamps light them up. I wonder if the HIDs would work better.
Going from a V6 to a GT I noticed a HUGE difference between just the v6 headlights and the foglights with the GT. Especially on dark roads, although people flash their lights at me. I think the V6s and Shelbys need HIDs.
Good golly Ms. Molly, here we go again... :so

Your "fog lights" light up the road so great because they're NOT fog lights, they're driving lights.

I just want people who own these to actually be more educated about what they own... being enthusiasts and all ;)

Here was a great thread about it: http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/981378-post19.html

Which aftermarket HIDs are you talking about? The Saleens replace the entire housing are not just bulb replacements - I would put them up against the OEMs any day.
