I'm sure you've all seen the 2005 concept and PRODUCTION photos. You do visit the 2005 Mustangs forum, after all. And one must ask: they've already got photos of the production car, why not begin production? There's still time to produce enough to introduce as 2004 1/2 models to celebrate the 40 year anniversary. It's only fitting, with the design cues from the 60s.

Perhaps when the 2005 models come around there will be minor changes to denote that it is not a 2004 1/2. Just like the minor changes from 1964 1/2 to 1965, other than the generator to alternator and 260 to 289ci V8s.

Or maybe even have ALL 2004 1/2 models be anniversary editions with appropriate graphics and design cues.

I say think about it, Ford!

What do the rest of you think?

Adam, there is really NO 64 1/2, the mustang debuted as a 65 model.
The 64 1/2 term was coined by owners of the first batch produced in late 1964..thats it.

But the new Mustang will debut late in 2004 so you can call it a 04 1/2 if you like.

The 05 will come out in September....they overproduced the 04 (which I'm willing to bet that many of them are 03's that have been rebadged) and now have to have a huge selloff before releasing the 05. (This info came straight from the Ford rep at the LA Auto show)

And Rob is right about there not being a 64 1/2...there are early 65s and 65s.

But the generator and the alternator switch? The 260 and the 289 switch? The instrument cluster alterations? Those are distinct changes. I could have sworn there was an official 1964 1/2.

Why was '99 the year of the 35th anniversary?

Wait a minute, Ford already produced 40th anniversary editions didn't they?

because, if they started production in late 64 and early 65, they may not have distributed them until 65, which would make 99 the 35 anniversery

i greatly apologize, i am wrong 94gt, look here for some info and pics!!!

http://www.edge-inc.net/cars/index.cfm/page/one/id/395/t/conceptcars.htm

so the 65's were meant to debut in 65, but they started the trend of releasing the cars earlier, so technically it would still be a part of 65, that is why 05 is the 40th ann.

Sure you can start at zero, when you haven't finished the year out.

You can argue about it all you want. It's not going to change that there was a '64 1/2.

I'm afraid not, my dear. It was released, advertised and sold as a 65 model....even though it was released on April 17, 1964. That's how the trend of releasing cars "early" started....just as the 05s are being released in 2004. 64 1/2 is a term coined by owners as a matter of bragging rights and to differentiate between the early 65 and the later 65.

And Ford recognized that fact and went with it.

FORD HAS NEVER CALLED IT A 64 1/2!!! I will bet you pink slips that you can not find ANY 1964 Mustang part number in ANY Ford book. hell, I worked in a Mustang shop where you would get fired for calling ANY Mustang, even a first day car, a 64 1/2

1965 to 2004 = 40 production models no if, ands, or buts, that is why 2004 is the 40th anniverssary edition, and '99 was the 35th. It has nothing to do with a 64 1/2, while there were early 1964 mustangs produced and sold, the fact remains they were all 1965 models to ford, as proof, there is no VIN that denotes a 1964 model year for mustangs, if you find one its fake.
