Why X-pipe? on 1990 5.o w/ AOD

i have a 1990 with stock 5.0 that has all the heater core and all the pluming that is included in it and no smog pump and no a/c. i have 2.5in dual exh. with some flo pro mufflers. i have had people tell me that i need to run a crossover pipe, either an x or h. what is the reasoning behind this. i always thought that the better your car can breathe the better it run. (intake and exhaust) let me know what you think.

An x or h pipe will help your car breathe better. It helps the exhaust flow out of your engine more freely. However, neither will make a noticable difference unless you get them without cats (off road a.k.a. o/r) and a tune as well.

I totally agree! I have a '90 gt with off road x-pipes, super 44's, no cats and they dump off just before the rear axle. go with a x-pipe if you like a raspy sound and a h-pipe if you like the old hot rod sound. You may also wanna add long tube headers. Check out youtube and listen to some examples.

only 1 prob with that long tubes wont fit on AOD
i havonly 2.5in pipes that run rom headers to mufflers amd then dump before the rear end. sound is not the issue. its if the air has to be equilized when it comes out of the motor in order to keep that backpressure equil.
