hey guys i have a parts ranger with a 8.8 it has 3:73 gears i want to put in my 85 ford mustang i am wondering if the gears will fit in if i can put the whole carrier in from the ranger or if i have to take the ring and pinion from the ranger and put it on my mustang carrier thanks

if it isnt a limited slip unit i would use your carrier, when i had my '03 ranger i put a mustang 8.8 LS carrier in it with my 4.10s from the ranger and shimmed it up made for some fun in the mud and snow cause it was an open carrier at first

The carrier will swap right over, but if it's not a trac-lok carrier then you will not be able to just swap the trac-lok into the ranger carrier, since the trac-lok and open differential use a slightly different carrier design. It really won't be any more work just to put the ranger gears onto the mustang carrier though, you're gonna have to swap the pinion gear and do the entire setup process either way.
