I am planning a trip in a couple of month and was wondering should i wait to install my lowering kit on my car until i get back. I know the lowering springs will help my handling, but didnt know if it would hurt the smoothness of the ride?

It depends:
-What kind of lowering springs did you get? (spring rate, and drop expected)
-Are you going to run your OEM shocks?
-What else comes with the "kit"?

the short answer is - yes - lowering will hurt your ride quality, BUT if you buy a high quality kit this can be minimized. i think going with just springs will likely give you the worst ride quality. it also makes little sense in the way of time and money if you only change the springs - its all same cost or time if you put the stockers back in.

Ride quality is subjective. I like and prefer the car riding stiff, minimum body roll and nose dive. If i want squishy suspension I will hop in the f series.

opinion - The car should have came 1.5" lower from the factory with stiffer suspension.

You will feel bumps more if lowered, but the trauma passes quickly... Better handling at speed and around corners. It also looks better...

If they would publish actual spring rates for their supposed "tuned" packages we'd know a lot more before buying their crappy springs

When I bought from TCKline for another car I could choose 300, 350, 400, 450, 500, 550.. all the way up.

Anyone have a tip on finding spring rates for sets that can go on a Mustang? Maybe I'm looking in the wrong literature.

Op... it doesn't have to get worse.. it can get better if you properly match your spring rates and dampers.

Get a spring that is progressive in the spring rate so to speak. I read in 5.0 mag that Eibach has a kit with shocks/struts that are progressive as well. It drops about 1.7 back and 1.3 ish in the front. Looks sweet and is supposed to be a smooth/comfortable ride. Check it out as I am told that it will work not only for 2005-2009 but 2010-2011 as well...not sure if that is true and if it will be an upgrade to the newer refreshed cars but worth a shot.

All that being said....does anybody else know what other spring/shock/strut kit are out there for the 2011 that are progressive? Otherwise I keep hearing go with Steeda springs and Koni yellows.

If you want ride quality get Koni FSDs rather than yellows
I'll have to look up FSD....are those variable rate then like the Eibach kit I read about for the 2005-2009 cars? Is that same kit good to go for 2011 cars and still an upgrade in handling? I think that Eibach kit lowers it a little too much. .5 inch in front and .75 in back or so would be better for me. 1 inch all around might be ok, anymore than that and I am afraid to scrape everywhere.

I don't scrape, however I know the cars height and slow down for bumps and know what I should not drive over.

although physically all of those different springs made for different years and trim levels will work, they are not "tuned" for the 2011 V6 front end weight.

lets say you stick a 2011 Mustang GT front spring on a 2011 V6, then the front end drop won't be as much and the ride will be more harsh/stiff since it's meant to hold an extra ~150lbs of eight over the front axle.

As of right now, the only 2011 3.7L V6 spring I know of designed exclusively for the V6 is the performance package springs directly from Ford. They are also listed as a "unique spring rate"

Right...I"m curious about 2011 GT myself.

As for scrapes...how bad is it for angles getting in and out of driveways? How about getting in and out of parking lots? Any other normal driving 'hazards' out there a problem with a mustang that is dropped.

My driveway is at an angle and I do not scrape on it, however I do avoid some business entrances/exits and speed bumps. Any thing entrance i see scrape marks I will likely avoid. If you have a feel for the height of the car you know what you can go over straight and what you will need to enter at a angle (like a angled driveway, i always try to approach at an angle). I have not had any issues on the road, except for avoiding pot holes and other large bumps in the lane.

The prelude I had dropped was much more prone to scraping, mainly due to the length of the car extending past the front wheels.

Not sure if it's the same kit as 05-09 cars, but it is definitely an upgrade in handling. FSDs adapt to the frequency of road vibrations and get stiffer when cornering. They can be used with any springs that aren't too crazy in drop (I think it's no more than 1.25") but you should really call Koni and ask to be certain. I honestly haven't tried them on my Mustang, but have had FSDs on my euro cars and can highly recommend them.

The FRPP Handeling Packs/ FRPP Springs are progressive.

Thanks.

I noticed that just after I posted this and been having dialouge in another thread. Sounds like a drop more than 1 inch requires moving some pieces around too.
