If you look at the wiper arm, you will see 4 parts to it
1.The base, which is the piece that slips over the stud you are trying to remove it from
2. A hinge
3. A arm with a spring hooking it to the base, across the hinge
4. The wiper blade
The hinge must be straightened out by pushing down at the hinge, then the base needs to be lifted straight up, while a small tab is levered away from the stud under the hinge. There is actually a special tool made that straightens and lifts the base in one motion.
