So I'm looking to tune my 2014 5.0 mustang the mods it has right now are: kooks 1-3/4 headers and kooks off road x pipe, flow masters mufflers, k&n cai. I've considered getting it dynotuned or a mail order tuner. I was curious what tunes worked best for y'all.

Everyone has their own preferences. Lund, AED, Brenspeed, Bama, etc. I think now days, any of them will get you what you want.

I've heard nothing but good things about any of the ones listed above ^^^ Cant go wrong with any of them.

The hi-performance guys I talk to suggest that a custom tune by a local shop is far better course to improving torque and top end power.

And don't forget about Steeda ... we write very safe, reliable & powerful tunes.

You can reach me at tim@steeda.com.

Best Regards,

TJ
I agree 100% I have a Steeda Tune and CAI. I actually tried 3 other different tunes from competitors (I will not name them) and liked the Steeda tune the best! Steeda IMO is balanced just right....not to crazy of a tune and not too conservative...but just right. I think if a tune is too advance that could mean trouble sometime down the road. This is what I felt with some of the tunes from the competitors.

Again, this is me and others may have a different opinion. All are great it is just a matter of preference. Mine was Steeda.

I think they are all dependable and reliable at this point. I went with Bama for the price myself. I run the race tune and I picked up three tenths with it. If I had a dyno available locally I would definitely have gone that route though

any of the e mail tunes are good as far as I have heard - but imo there is nothing better than a custom tune done by a expert on a dyno but a good one is not cheap
An email tune is a custom tune when you data log it for your tuner. The days of needing a dyno tune are long gone.

You have an auto correct? Mike Roush from Mid Atlantic Performance is the go to guy on the autos.

Mike@MAP is awesome.

Unless you have a real good mustang shop local, the idea that a local on the dyno tune is better is silly. I've seen all the local tunes, and they are junk. A mail order tune with some logging is just as good or better. I rather have one of the above shops (MAP, Lund, AED, VMP) tune the car mail order with some logging than trust it to some local that happens to have a dyno. I rather have the car street tuned anyways. Car doesn't have the same load as it does on a dyno, so cars should always be logged/checked on the street after a dyno tune anyways to see if the extra load causes knock/lean conditions.

Depends on how much risk you want to take with your #8 cylinder.

I'd suggest staying with Bama, because they warranty #8 cylinder failures.

Some "custom tune" from some local place? Not. A. Chance.

Bama was the WORST tune I've had. Car would not run right. Spent 3+ months trying to get the car to be driveable. They do have good customer service, and refunded all my money. Next tuner got it driving good on 1st try. I would never suggest Bama for a tune.

All of my Bama tunes have been great with no issues. Currently running a 93 Hybrid tune and love it.

While your opinion is totally understandable, keep in mind that your situation is not typical.

I do understand though. I'd be ticked too.

I started off with BAMA when the car was stock. Instant power and throttle response increase. Worth every penny. But then I put the BOSS intake, CAI, and 3.73s on the car and we couldn't get the tune zeroed in. The car was pinging and ran a little funny. Fortunately, I had just gotten my tax return and I was able to go in person to a reputable Mustang tuner in Southern California. The 1st adjustment on the Dyno gained me like 20HP and 25TQ and the pinging was gone. Turns out my Coyote needed some legitimate timing changes. My tuner was surprised how much he tweaked it (compared to other Coyotes he'd done) and how much better it responded. Plus, I built a rapport with the tuner and got hooked up on future mods/installs!

So, my vote is to Dyno tune it. If you have the means. Not all these engines are the same and whats good for one on the East coast may not make another on the West coast run so well...THAT SAID, I have no doubt if I took the time to data-log that BAMA would have zeroed me in eventually. They know their stuff.

I had a Bama tuner for about 1week, didn't think it was worth the 400$ , so I went ahead and got a dyno tune, and the tuner fella said I gained around 30 horses over the Bama, and now I'm fully tuned compared to what the Bama tune did...

What BAMA tune were you running?
