Right after my dad and I got our cars we went to the track with about 500 miles on each car. Both v6 base cars with a stick. Both have Bama 93 tunes, and my car, the 2.73 car has a JLT intake, his has a K&N filter. It was about 80 degrees that day and we got 5 runs in. I won 3 out of 5, that day with the best times we had being:
Dad 13.99@99 2.1 60 ft. Mine was 14.15@98 with a 2.0 60 ft. I pulled him out of the hole every time, but both losses he went around me with the better gear.i know that my car will go about 13.8 after some miles and cooler weather, but on the same day and same track and similar drivers, a gear makes all the difference in the world. And I honestly don't think an intake matters. I ran 22 psi in my rears. His we're 26.

That's interesting, although still a few factors can still be considered between those times. A full track sheet, with 60ft etc, for each car would be interesting. I still do not have a CAI, just the K&N filter, and have always been skeptical of the benefits of the CAI on 3.7's. I know I'm in the minority though.

Nevermind, i see you listed the 60ft's lol

Good times for the cars! A lower gear is the best mods for these cars. My car came with the 2.73's also and when I changed to the 3.73's it was a night and day difference.

When you get a chance get your dad and your timeslips and post them in this thread that I'm linking. It is a list of all the members 3.7 1/4 mile times and mods. http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/2011-v6-mustang-tech/339854-2011-v6-1-4-mile-list.html

It would have been a better comparison if your dad drove both cars and you drove both cars at the track. Overall, I would expect your dad's car with the 3.31 gears to do slightly better at the track.

His not having an intake and yours having one could have also loaded your times while keeping his in line with what they should be. Next time maybe you can put the CAI on his car and see the difference

That's really great work with just stock tires dropped a bit in pressure. You've also got roughly 100 lb more around your neck than me, plus it's rotating mass you've got to spin up.

Consider my favorite mod, a Raptor shift light, for the next time you have a spare $110. Great for repeatability and taking one more attention-robbing thing (tach-reading) away. Once more,

Nice work !!!!

Temps are in the low 50's here now. I am going to try and get to the track one more time. I have almost 6000 miles on the car. My goal is 13.8 before I go to a 3.73 gear, on stock tires. I know I can cut a 1.9 60 ft in this car and hit 100.

power braking, take off at 3000 rpms and you will launch under 2 seconds to 60 ft.

He can't power brake a manual - well, he could, but as quick as these cars' clutches are to become fragrant at the tiniest slippage, it would be interesting.

Billy, the 13.80 should be yours. Two clean shifts after one of those 2.0x leaves, and you're there.

It has to be a great time racing your dad at the track!
Good times indeed

Where do the years go....I have no son to run with, and it will be a while before my grandsons are old enough. Until I'm 73, in fact.

Keep hammering with that thing, and hide $$$ away for sticky tires in 2013.

Great job for the first time out with the new Mustangs! I see you have a little seat time experience too. Also, I agree with more miles on the car, a little practice, you'll be in the 13.89 range.

Now the question is, when are you going to get gears and tires to really match your old man!?

I'm not. I'm just gonna punch him in the wiener right before the race. Lol. Actually I'm going to look at a GTi tomorrow.

Take the "i" off and you have a winner!! :gringreen

The coolest things I found in this thread:
3. At least two times, you and your Dad bought the same car and raced each other.
2. You have Father and Son races at the track.
1. Your 66 year old, Vette owning Dad still likes to go to the track, straps on a racing helmet and drag races like a young buck.

Speaking as a Father of three adult children, I'm not sure that dumping your mustang is the way to go. It sounds like you have something pretty special going on with your Dad right now. You should both mod the sh*t out of your cars and keep going to the track together. Twenty five years from now, you'll be telling stories about modding and racing twin Mustangs with your Dad and what a cool old man he was. You can't even make up better lies than stories like those. I'm Jealous!
