Hi all, it's been a bunch of years since I last pulled an old radio and got it working again. My goal is to send it off to get it converted to am/fm.

When I pulled it out, there were no wires coming out of or going into the unit. My recollection from years ago is that there was a wire or two coming out of the radio that plugged into the underdash harness. But, nothing coming out of this unit. Also, I don't see any obvious unconnected wires under the dash that would logically connect to the radio.

Besides the antenna connection on the RH side, I only see what seem to be 2 plugs in the back of the radio, but they are an inch or more deep inside the casing.

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but attached are views of each side of the radio. Advice and/or diagrams much appreciated!

That would be the year ford came out with their classic wireless radio. :gringreen

Serioulsy, This schematic shows you should have a couple connectors coming out of the side.
Are those wires pinched on the left side of your radio?
Or even the ones that are supposed to be coming out cut off?

From your picture 4.jpg it looks like the wires are coming out and going back in under the cover, take the cover off and check, if the insulation has been cut they will need to be insulated. Good Luck.

Hello. :) Someone has cut the connectors off and stuffed the wires back into the radio. They would have been sticking out of the driver's side of the radio when it's mounted in the dash with a two prong connector going to the dash speaker right above it and either one or two wires that plug into wires that are plugged into the accessory feed. :)

Thanks all. Yes, someone must have cut the wires. What's puzzling is that the wires coming out of the driver's side are firmly connected and even bracketed. More puzzling is that there are two holes that seem to have been soldered shut. I've circled them in a new picture.

I'm assuming these holes should not be closed off? But if the radio was busted and just left in the dash for show, why would anyone go to the trouble of soldering shut these holes? Strange.

Veronica, are these the holes from which the wires you describe would exit the radio?

Hi again. :) The wires that I mentioned are still on your radio, and they exit just like they are supposed to. It's just that they dive back into the radio. The soldered places you're seeing are an addition made by someone other than the manufacturers of the radio, and probably hold some sort of clip or bracket inside the radio which is probably what's securing the other end of the wires. Someone went to an awful lot of trouble to keep those wires from getting tangled up in the heater controls. :gringreen
