hi, i would like to know if anyone has a few pictures of where and how the brake light switch gets mounted under the dash. i have a new switch but i cant seem to figure it out, or what it may connect to. there wasn't one in the car when i bought it. my car is a 1967 coupe, with manual brakes at all four's. thank you. Here ya' go Nick, single one is of the left side of the pedal, other 2 are of the right as taken from the tranny hump.

Hello. There isn't really any trick to it. You come up from the driver's side of the steering column, snatch that pin out, and the switch just rolls right off as you work the master cylinder push rod off of the peg on the pedal. Sounds easy, doesn't it? As noticed, space is at a premium there. I never had any trouble getting to it, but guys frequently end up calling the switch everything but a child of God. :gringreen

Hey great pics I just swapped a new master cylinder in my 66. I got the switch back on but the switch won't turn off. I can't figure out what i'm doing wrong. If I pull the switch off the push rod it turns off. But once I install it it's seems like its stuck in the on position.

Did your push rod have a little plastic bushing that fit over the pedal shaft ? It takes out the slop and set the rod position relative to the switch.

What happens if you pull back on the pedal ? will the brake lights go out ?

The light doesn't go out when I push back. I had my son shake it and nothing it just stayed on. I do have the bushing here is a schematic I used to put it back together.

I would be inclined to think you either have a bum switch (even though it is new) or the push rod. Try exchanging the swithc with another just in case the one you have is of poor quality or has been distorted.

When you replaced your MC, did you use the same push rod or did you install a new one

I'll look into getting a new switch. I used a new push rod, but matched it up with the old one to make sure they were the same size.

It's not a new switch i'm reusing the old one

I just replaced the master cylinder and used the same parts for the switch. Having same problem with brake lights always on. Did the new switch work for you? Or was it something else?

Adjust push rod--between Master cylinder and vacuum container.

Too long- brake light stays on all time
Too short- excessive brake pedal travel.
