NEw to the Forum, but have been reading up. Just purchased 93' Cobra rear brakes off of Ebay for my 90'GT. Read on another forum that I will probably need the 93'Brake Booster. Will I have to replace my M/C and buy a new distribution block? I know I will most likely need a proportioning valve, looking at Ford Racing or SSBC. I chose to go with 4 bolts becuase I want to keep my 16" Pony Stars. I am also looking to upgrade to 12" Baer Brakes in June / July so any advice will be appreciated from anyone who has done this swap
Thanks in advance

You heard correct, you'll need the Cobra brake booster because the disc brakes require higher pressure than drum brakes. Either proportioning valve would be good to get.

Using a 1994 M/C & Brake Booster

What if I went with a 1994 Brake Booster and 1994 M/C? After talking a co-worker he reminded me that 94's are all Discs all around. If I went with 94' M/C and Booster, would I still need to use a proportioning valve?
TIA

You will have a hard enough time installing the Cobra booster. I would just use it. The MC depends on the front and rear brake combo. Just a slight upgrade in the front and 88 turbo coupe in the rear are just reqiured to use a Cobra MC. Anything bigger you will need the 94 MC. You will need to modify your ebrake, get the disc brake ebrake cables and definetly need to remov e or gut the dist block and add a proportioning valve to the rear brake line.

With the turbo coupe/cobra rear discs the ebrake will be awful. Its an embarrassment to emergency brakes. I mean, if youre parked on a hill, just dont. The problem is in the piston design of the caliper. It twists in and out of its bore so it has massive amounts of friction, and that poor cable and your right arm just dont have any leverage to work with. Ive actually broken a cable I pulled it so hard.

The easiest solution apparently is to use some Cadillac calipers, because they utilize the the small drum inside as an ebrake. the site I linked here before has more info. That is what Im doing next. My calipers have been rebuilt, then replaced completely and they still suck. They drag too much under no pressure, because the piston cant get out of its own way. That and the ebrake. They brake well though.

As for master cylinder, I went with a 94 MC. I believe thats a 1-1/16" bore. I have 73mm calipers in the front, and its still too big. The cobra is expensive, but i would go with a smaller MC to give your foot a brake. When I drive my car, I have to kind of give it hell to lock up the brakes. You get used to it, but its not optimal if your trying to do things quickly, which we all like to do. :)

thats what i want to know as well. In stock form, the e-brakes have to be good right? I hope someone answers this, because i have always been curious, but everyone I know who has done the swap agree the ebrake is crap. maybe it has to do with the fox handle???
