So a couple weeks ago i was driving on the highway and i believe a snow clump hit the bottom of my car. immediately the wrench light came on. The car had reduced power but was still drivable. i contacted the dealership and they said it was safe to drive home. i drove it home (at a reduced speed obviously) and contacted the dealership. it was going to be over a week to get it looked at. Frustrated as i was i went to go talk to the dealership in person. started my car and the light was gone and ran just dandy.

Today i was making the 2 hour trip from my dads house to mine, and through a town along the way i slowed down to 60 km/h. leaving the town it is uphill and returns to a 100km/h speed limit. I attempted to accelerate to highway speed and my car revved to about 3000 rpm (somewhat normal id say) then the wrench light came on again and rpm dropped to 500 rpm. i pulled over and again i shut off the car then turned it back on and the light was off.

Proceeding up the hill the car worked fine. once up the hill i went to pass a bus. i was then travelling at 110km/h, pulled out to pass, stepped on the gas (again around the 3000 rpm mark) immediately the wrench, AND the service engine light came on.

As i was on the highway in the middle of no where with no cell service, i shut off my car, checked oil level (oil was good had it changed 2000 km earlier), woulda checked transmission fluid but the 06 model has no way to check it yourself as it is concealed. Everything else seemed fine.....

Before i go crazy spending money to get the car looked at, is there anything i should do to check if the problem is serious or merely a glitch/malfunction? I am taking it over to a friends business tomorrow to get the diagnostics and get the light cleared but any info will help. Thanks in advance

best thing to do would be go to a dealer and have em scan it. They're computers track down the very sensor being tripped. I had the notorious wrench light come on two years ago.. spent over $1,000 trying to fix it alltogether.. for me it was the TPS sensor.. I believe its on the right side of the throttle body itself (looking at the car from the front). If I remember right the sensor is about $240. Good luck

mine did the same thing. i tapped on mine and it is working again. you can try it, but normally it has to be replaced

Like all these guys are saying it sounds exactly like a TPS sensor (Throttle Positioning Sensor). My bud had a problem similar to this on his toyota and he changed that sensor and it was fine. Change it yourself and save some cash and see if it fixes the problem.
