I bought a 2011 GT in July and I drive 75 miles round trip a day to and from work. 25 miles actual driving on the interstate and the rest in town driving.
I drive about 70mph on the interstate and of course make the mufflers growl every now and again in town.
I get about 14 mpg using 93octane. I reset it when I fill up, but still usually maintain about 14-15mpg regardless.
I didn't buy it for the great mileage and to get 225 miles per tank, but just checking.
What are you guys getting on your 2011& 2012's?
Just wondering.

wow...I average about 20mpg with basically 95% in town driving and punching it about 5-7 times per gas tank....and by punching it, I mean WOT

I drive the automatic tho and I know that makes a difference....between driving styles.

oh also, calculate your MPG's by hand....the calculator in the gauges isnt 100% accurate.

With normal driving where I live my car averages around 20 mpg, on the highway it gets 24-25 mpg at 75 and city driving with lots of stop lights it gets 15 mpg.
I would say my mileage is similar to this. I have a '12 GT with a manual and about 4500 miles. I'll be interested to see if the mileage improves as the car continues to loosen up a bit.

^^This is the key. The computer can be very deceiving depending on many variables.

I'm getting 15-18 on the highways over here. These highways are called autobahns and I rarely drive under 100 MPH (normal cruising speeds are 100-120 MPH). :winks

As Yeti suggested calculate by hand and see if you're really getting much better mileage.

+2 The onboard computer may be adding in too much information or irrelevant information to calculate an accurate mileage reading. When first purchased, my onboard pooter measured 14mpg. One day I reset it and since then it has never gone below 19mpg average. If on a roadtrip with a reset every fillup it reads 26mpg.

Hand calculated my daily commute average is 20.6mpg and the last road trip I had an overall 26.9mpg(1,500miles) with a best 33.3mpg.

Ok, I feel better. I get 17.8 then. I used to drive a 2007 Avalanche and it was crazy bad mileage and then I bought the mustang and went damn!!
I can drive to and from work for 3 days and still have about 25 miles left on the electronic gauge, when I fill up it takes usually 14 gallons. So I do get better mileage than I thought.
Thanks for the input, it makes me feel better.

I try to keep the mpg @23mpg average mixed driving on my 2012 GT. Highway I usually get between 27 and 30 depending on my speed and the wind. (U.S. mpg 60%city 40%hwy @50-60 mph)
You can improve your mpg loads by skip shifting in the city when you are not playing (1-3or4-6). Don't get me wrong, I get on it at least 3-4 times a day, but when there is nowhere to go because of traffic, I'll skip shift to improve the mpg and also pull it out of gear when anticipating a stop ahead and coast to the light. With practice it becomes normal and you really get good at judging how far you can coast without pissing people off behind you.

I've also found when the mpg readout is 27, my manual calculations works out to about 1.3 mpg above that at times. i don't know if its a difference between different pumps. I usually will fill up and squeeze the handle another 2 times after the auto shutoff unless I'm in the U.S. , then I will squeeze it till there is no room left lol. Even though a lot of your gas comes from Canada, they sell it to you cheaper than us. Gota love that Canadian Government. I have about 4500 miles on the OD so its well broken in now.

My Mustang has been parked for the last month (its winter time). For the first 13,800 miles the overall average for my 2011 GT automatic is 26.247 miles to the gallon on premium. How high can the miles per gallon go in the GT automatic? I averaged 30.013 miles per gallon on a 3 day trip through various cities and country roads covering 1020 miles, with a high single tank average of 30.24 miles per gallon (there was quite a bit of driving through Detroit and Dearborn on this tank). As a side note for comparison, driving my F150 4x4 the same way as my Mustang, I am only averaging about 14.2 miles per gallon (I had a high average of 18.3 miles per gallon in the truck over 3 tanks a couple of years ago when I tried an experiment running premium - pumping 35 gallons of premium is too expensive right now).

Based on my experience, cold starts kill the gas mileage, even if you only let the car idle for 30 seconds before heading down the road. Pushing the RPM above 2,000 so that you can hear the engine rumble also kills gas mileage if done too frequently. Leaving a gap between you and the car in front, and using that gap at red lights to take advantage of engine braking helps a lot to improve gas mileage.

Something is definitely not right here. I get 16.5 mpg. I have a custom 93 race tune on mine (on the rich side for gas consumption), headers, xpipe, intake, cervinis exhaust which is wide open through put. Before the mods I was getting over 21. No reason you should be getting this low unless computer is still learning.

I get at least 17.8 then if I don't pay attention to the computer. I now have 9,800 miles on it. On a full tank sometimes it reads 272 miles to empty, my mileage is a lot better, but usually it says 250 or so miles to empty.

On the highway, cruising at 65 mph my 100% stock GT gets 27 mpg. Cruising at 70, the mileage drops to 25. Around town I get 20 mpg. I use 87 octane exclusively. When I feel the need for speed, mileage drops to 16 mpg.

From January of 2011 until the present time my actual average mileage is 21.7 MPG. The computer average mileage is 20.7 MPG. I have used 425 gallons of 91 octane fuel at an average cost of $4.08 per gallon. When using the total miles driven, the cost has been 19.03 cents per mile. That's not too bad for a stock Mustang GT! :bigthumbsup

Thats pretty darn good. My computer is measuring worse than actual. I can't believe how much gas is in Cali. My kids live in Riverside, Ca, so when I visit them I get a taste of what you pay. In New Orleans, I usually pay 3.30-3.45 for 93 octane.

Only had my 2012 manual for a week. Ended up getting 18.5 mpg on the first tank (which had an 80 mile drive home from the dealership, mostly highway followed by the local mess). The second tank was all local, ended up 16.3 mpg (and that was with a few, short shifted at 5000 rpm , WOT runs). Today we went all the way up to Raleigh and back. filling up before and after, and got 23.7 mpg. Not to shabby for a week old, 650+ mile car.

We did the exact same trip we did today 5 weeks ago in my F150 and got 17.1 mpg.

The one strange thing I am finding is that although the computer in the F150 is always optimistic, by about 0.5-0.8mpg, the computer in the 'Stang seems to be pessimistic, and it seems to be off by almost 1-2 mpg (was 1.8 too low today, it showed 21.9mpg versus the 23.7 we observed).

My point exactly, it isn't very accurate either way, neither was my Avalanche. I have taken it on a 300 mile trip and it showed a steady 25mpg on the highway there and back. These cars get decent mileage on trips, but the way I commute and drive it, I guess 16 or so is going to be my norm. Oh well, I didn't buy it to save me money on fuel! :)

Last time I checked I got 4.7

I have only 1000 mi. Since car is finally broken in...I just can't resist drinking fuel like beer lately. This car can drink. I will try to better that 4.7 av. mpg. I think I will have to take gas with me to the track. My car has a 16 gal tank. 30.00 fills it 1/2 way and that 30.00 will get me approx.90 hard miles. My window sticker shows17 city-26 hwy.Bahh.but I guess 26 mpg at 55mph,no wind,flat...maybe.
