I wanted to post my first impressions on the new Shaftmasters 3.5" aluminum drive shaft I just installed.

First let me start by saying I have 3.73's, CAI, JLT Rear lower control arms and a 93 Hybrid Bama tune. And I don't baby my car.

STOCK DRIVESHAFT: In the past 2500 miles I begin to feel & hear a noticeable vibration from the stock driveshaft at around 20MPH. It was an audible noise from the U-Joints that I could best describe as "marbles in a barrel". It felt like it was badly out of balance. It was most noticeable at 20MPH but still audible at other speeds. It was really starting to detract from the driving experience. I attribute it to the low cost two piece design of the stock shaft.

SHAFTMASTERS: My first impression is "THANK YOU". The smoothness of the drive train is night and day with the aluminum DS installed. The noise and vibration is completely gone. It amazes how much quieter the car is now. The engine feels "Looser" and rev's up quicker. My butt dyno says its gained a few ponies from the swap. I highly recommend this mod to anyone who's been considering it. It makes the car feel much more refined.

Great to know. This will definitely be on my "to-do" list in the near future. Thanks for the info!

You all do know that the shaftmasters and actually any of the aftermarket driveshafts for these cars are also "two piece" shafts like the stocker, just a different design, right?

The difference is that the "slip" part of the shaft is on the end of the shaftmasters instead of in the middle like the stock one.

I think what this does mostly is reduce flex in the middle of the shaft.

Big thanks for an actual first-hand report.

The V6 is still referenced as a one-piece unit in that it only has two flanges at each end. What the coupler does in the middle or end as with the aftermarket you would have to ask the design engineer. As Chris (AM) stated in the other DS thread, a two piece can be taken apart at either end or the middle like the 5.0. I just helped a friend exchange the DS on his 5.0.

Thank you, for your report sir. This mod has been moving slowly up my priority list for a little while now! I maybe making the jump to an Al DS soon.

I have one of their aluminum driveshafts on my '11 5.0 and love it. I want to put one in my wife's '11 V6 also.

mine should be installed within the next couple days, just received it today. thanks for the update
