I was woundering if anyone has installed a sound system in a car like this and if so any tips ?

i have the base system so it really sucks i already have had a couple systems in different cars but this is my first mustang and so i wanna do everything the right way. and i kinda already know more or less what i want to put in. im just woundering if anyone has any suggestions or even knows how to install in this model that can give me tips

I have the base radio too. I have installed 5x7 in the doors and rear deck. It sound a little better. As far as what type/brand, its your call. I'm keeping the head unit, due to so so review of the kit made by Mitra. Hopefully in a few months other radio kit options will be available. My next step to to add an amplifer. I did noticed the sub enclosures are attched to the door panels. I was thinking of installing 6.5 compoment speakers, by cutting into the panel. That will wait after the amp install.

There's no need to cut into the panel. You can just make an adapter to go from an 8" down to a 6.5". The easiest way to upgrade those is to just get the Kicker/Shelby door subs. Then if you're going with an external amp, personally, I'd love to get the Image Dynamics 5x7's that fit right in the stock location but sound awesome. I'm not sure if I'm getting an external amp, though. I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to tear the interior out of a brand new car.

I redid my 11GT. Here is how:

I changed the fronts and rears, added a Stealthbox to the trunk, and added amplification for the whole works.

Stock head unit, you cannot tell anything was changed (until you turn on the stereo, then it's pretty obvious :gringreen )

You can see the final results of the remaining trunk space here:

I changed the fronts and rears, added a Stealthbox to the trunk, and added amplification for the whole works.

Stock head unit, you cannot tell anything was changed (until you turn on the stereo, then it's pretty obvious :gringreen )

danm dude thats sick i actually had already seen that link you posted that gave the step by step. actually just purchased a 5 channel jl xd amp i have two 10 in kicker cvr and i bout one set of focal speakers for the front they just have to come in. the only thing im scared of is doing everything my self. i like getting my hands dirty but its a new car so im scared of messing something up. the audio shop i bout my speakers from and actually a rep from focal told me that he just recomends changing out the front speakers and leaving the stock ones as is. to intall everything im paying about 1200 but thats just for install the focal speakers and the amp. the two subs and sub box i already have. do you think i should just do everything my self and save my self some major cash? and how long did it take you to do everything ?

Getting speaker wire through the doors is the hardest part. If you have small hands then you may be ok. I'm 6'4", I'll just say my hands are NOT delicate. If I had a gun handy I may have blown my brains out part way through the 1st side. The second side was a breeze once I did it. Do yourself a favor and take care of the passenger side first because it's a little easier and then you'll know how to do the drivers side which has a little less room to work.

I should be finished wiring everything up tonight. I've been waiting a long time for my Scosche dash kit and it finally came.

danm did you get the trouch screen kit ? all those kits are so expensive its not even funny and i really dont like them. the only one i like is the touch screen from scoshe but yeah that would require about another grand including a good double din so idk

Yes, that's the kit. I already had the Alpine so I was only out for the cost of the dash kit. I'll upgrade to a nice double din in the future when I find something I like.

I agree with you, don't cut into a new car. I installed Orion Cobalt 5x7 in the doors and rear deck. Just installed an MB Quart Onyx 4 channel amp. I have a PAC signal convertor, one with four sensitivy controls. Know I need to send time to adjust the sound levels. At least I have the wiring done.

Save yourself some money. It may seem like alot of work, thats what I thought before starting, it went smoothly. Nothing better than knowing you did it yourself.

Hey its been a long time since i got on the forum but i recently installed both subs and amp and kept everything else the same. i have one question though how did you hook up everything to your factory stereo. i was unable to find a wire to tap into that i could use as a remote start for my amp so i tapped into the ignition acc which i didnt want to do so any tips or suggestions?

Has anyone tried the new Kicker upgrade that adds on to the factory base system with speaker amps, a sub and sub amps to supposedly tune the entire system?

I've heard that system in a Shelby American modified GT500, and it sounds great and can make your ears bleed!

I took a different (cheaper) approach. Just changed out the four stock 6 x 8 with Pioneer TS-D6802R. It sounds incredibly better than stock, and the Pioneers could handle extra power if you want to give it to them.

I left the stock door bottom mid subs alone. I pulled a cover off one of them, and they are not built too bad. Much better than the upper door speakers. If I ever change them, I will use a 6.5" with appropriate adapter to fit the hole, or a drop-in 8". DVC 2 ohm speakers are available, so I think a better base response is obtainable if you are willing to spend the $$$.

Base radio upgrade GT 2012

I went back to OEM radio, I was not happy with the Metra dash kit as far as appearance wise. I bought online from e***. It was missing brakets and trim. Plus the dash kit would turnon by it self when the car was off. Other than that it worked fine. I could not get help from Metra to purchase the brakets.:smirk
I just installed an AudioControl L6i line converter to OEM radio and it sounds amazing. :bigthumbsup It beats PAC one I had before the aftermarket radio. The L6i outputs 9.5 volts, I have it about 3/4 to match the 6 volts input on my amp, I ear the difference compare to a 2-3 volts preamp output from the aftermarket radio. I am able to turn the volume all the way and hear clean undistorted sound.
I have MB Quart four channel amp. The L6i has an auto turn on for external amp.
I am in the process of rewiring the speakers, currently only the rear speakers and 10' Bazooka sub connected.

I put most of the Kicker system in my 12 GT. I used these as my main speakers (Infinity Reference 6832cf 6 x 8/5 x 7-Inch, 180-Watt High Performance Two-Way Loudspeaker). Everything else was the Kicker system.
The only problem I have with it is that there is no way to adjust the sub. If you have some bass heavy music you'll kave to turn down the bass from the HU.
