Nice video and nice looking car! This looks like a great feature for someone who is newer at driving a manual and needs a little extra confidence getting started up a hill. Parallel parking on an incline can get a little hairy too, I could definitely see it's use there.

I say just learn to drive properly and if you use this as a crutch, then you'll never learn to.

Can this feature be disabled?

thats a tough feature to get used to ! I'd like it disabled.

2013 Hill Assist

I actually like the feature. As an experienced driver, I don't rely on it but I do notice when it kicks in. You don't change your driving habits. Probably not good to learn on and then move to another car that doens't have it. However, for an experienced driver, it is a neat feature.

This. I barely even notice it. And anyone who is proficient on a mt won't either.

Yeah, I just use my parking brake.. I would never use it.

Pretty cool feature. It seems to just hold the brakes for a second or two, correct? It's not actually engaging/slipping the clutch... right?

It is a pretty cool feature. Ford is not the only mfg. to use it. My freind has a Dodge Ram with the automatic & he has it.:yup:

Holds the brake for a few seconds or until you engage the clutch. I'm so quick to the grab point of the clutch that I never notice it. Only time I've noticed is when I was on a steep hill where I expected a few inches of roll back that never happened.

Interesting process to override hill start assist shown in the 2013's owner manual.

I wonder if it's possible to retrofit that feature into 2011-2012 cars. I don't know if that's a software only change or if hardware was changed or added to make it happen.

Why would you bother disabling it? I didn't even notice it until I experimented on a hill and got it to work. It's not hurting anything.

+1. The only time I notice it is when I try to make it work or if I'm on a very steep grade where I would normally have that brief couple of inches of rollback before starting forward.......in other words virtually never.

After 26 years of driving manuals I don't have issues with starting on hills, but I bet one place where it would be a feature worth its weight in gold would be San Francisco.......no matter how good of a manual driver you are. Heck the automatic I rented there felt like it rolled back a bit starting on some of those hills.

I love the Hill Assist, especially when some jerk gets right on my ass when stopped on a hill.

The autos have it too! It holds the gears longer. Why disable it? It makes the car move FASTER! On my auto if I have advancetrac off and turn on the hill assist, my car goes sideways!

Hill assist doesn't really excite me but when I watch those park assist gizmos I have to admit I'm pretty impressed. And not because I am not a good parallel parker, but imagine never having to sweat about rubbing your buttery soft rims against a curb ever again. Ahhhhhhhh. :D

Nice video!

The hill assist will be useful for some operators. My experience is over 1.5M driving miles, most w/ a MT, so I'm fine w/o that feature. The process of lifting the clutch to the engagement point, moving from the brake to the gas, then going is second nature, takes a fractional second and no backwards roll for the process.

FWIW, the wife's vehicle w/ AT has a hill hold feature, permitting the vehicle to remain stationary at an uphill stop, w/ no brake and no gas.

My wife's Mini Cooper has this feature. I was driving it one day and stopped on a hill with no one in back of me. I don't recall why but I wanted to roll back a few feet to get a look at something on the side of the road. Boy was I surprised when I took my foot off of the brake and it didn't roll for a few seconds.
