As I said in another post, I am starting to notice things about my new GT with all of 200 miles on the odometer. At idle, there is a really subtle clunking sound from the engine. I haven't noticed it before since I have had either the radio on or the AC on or both. But this evening I just turned everything off and rolled the windows down to enjoy the exhaust note. The odd sound goes away with rpm. Have any idea what causes this?

Yes yes I know there is plenty of info on an engine tick, but I am talking about a clunk. Maybe we're talking the same noise? I've had four 4.7L Ford engines (95 TBird, 1998, 2003 and 2006 Crown Vics) and If I remember correctly, they all had the same noise. I'd still like to know what the cause is. coffee2.gif

Without hearing it we have no idea. Take it to Ford and see what they say. At 200 miles, I wouldn't worry about it. Drive it.

Drive it for a while. You're probably worrying too much.
If I lean forward in the seat by about a foot, I don't hear it. So it's gotta be an exhaust sound wave resonance phenomena and nothing mechanical. tooth.gif

The sound is an illegal alien stuck in the trunk that snuck in via Texas and hitchhiked into Oklahoma. Seems to be the fad these days. Check your trunk

Probably the Camaro behind you.

No performance mods on the 2014, ever ? Transmission is way to lazy in stock form IMO

Hello former "sixxer" owner as I now am! I loved the '12 but dam am I ever reveling in the GT! I'm just enjoying the manly sound it emits and am totally tickled with everything it does. I just don't wanna touch anything for now..... except the sound pipe delete that is....

It just turned 300 miles and the mileage calculator is reading 19-20 mpg for town driving. Am I doing something wrong? Clients have told me that I'm way too light on the pedal. amer.gif

If you are getting that kind of mileage in town then you aren't getting the full 5.0 experience. You need to kick it up a notch!!!! Safely, of course.

I just recently started hearing a similar clunking sound out of my 2011 GT... It seems to be coming from the driver's side front wheel well... It is an awkward clunking that is only audible when going very slow, ie when parking, in traffic, etc... Anyone ideas?

Going over bumps? Strut mount?
After going up the driveway, yeah... Just saw the TSB thread up top, I'll have the dealership check it out.

Give it a chance to break in. And for God's sake, break it in properly - as in wring it out some.

At least get the GT500 mufflers, you won't be disappointed, and it's not a performance mod, it's a sound mod

I'm still really surprised at the sound. My son got Flowmasters for his F150 and I sound just like him now. I haven't heard a stock GT that sounds like mine. If it didn't have 9 miles on it when I bought it I'd suspect that someone had it modified and ended up not taking possession of it. It's LOUD.....

That sound is from the exhaust. This car has a bada$$ exhaust and can sound wicked 10-30 seconds after startup ESPECIALLY when it's cold....

This.

You're getting worked-up over nothing. It's "New Car Syndrome", where you fuss and obsess over every little tick and sputter.

Relax, you car is fine.
