Hi people, i have a 69 Mustang. Originally came with a 302 and c4 auto. I saved her from a field she had been sitting in for the past 10 years, all in all the car is nearly rust free and in pretty good shape for being 37 years old.
One problem though is the motor, although when pulling the dipstick the oil looks hella-clean (as does the tranny fluid, brake fluid, and power steering fluid), I popped off the valve covers and YUK! The guy told me the reason for parking it was because the #1 cylinder went out on him, spun bearing maybe?
Well after careful consideration I decided that I would just use a 5.0 from an 86 Mustang that I have for now, until I can build the original 302 the way I want. Basically, my question(s) is this:
Are the 1969 302 heads better than the E7 heads? Which should I use just for the added tiny bit of flow and "umph" for now?
Will the bellhousing bolt up okay or will I need a new bellhousing/adapter?
The 5.0 was from a 5 speed car, so I'll need a flexplate and junk, will the 69 302 flexplate work, or no?
When replacing the starter, do I use the stock style 69 starter or get a newer 5.0 starter?
That's all I can think of right now, any and all help appreciated. If any of you can think of anything else, please feel free to share. Thank you!
