So I have ordered the Pypes Muffler delete after checking every exhaust available, I liked Pypes the most. Anyway, it will arrive tomorrow or the day after. I am a complete newbie, and the only work I have done on cars is clean the throttle body or change spark plugs etc.

Can I install them with the car up on jackstands? And if yes, where should I place them?

And also, ive heard that one of the side's exhaust hangs lower than the other. What would be a good way to fix this?

Your Help would be highly appreciated.

It is a realy easy job, once you get under there and look it will be pretty obvious.

You could probably do it with the car on the ground if you don't mind slithering around on the ground, but ramps or jack stands will give you more room. I used ramps on the rear wheels.

You will see that there are hangers bolted to the bottom of the car. I believe there are three bolts on one side and two bolts on the other. It can be a little trickly to get at the bolts because they are up under the mufflers, but not a big deal. A ratcheting box wrench will make it a little easier . . . 13mm if I remember correctly.

Also there is a clamp that secures the mufflers to the over-axle pipe. One 15-mm bolt on each loosens those up.

Once you have the hangers unbolted and the clamps loose, just wiggle the muffler around to pull it out of the pipe. To install put the hangers on the new mufflers, the same way as they were on the old ones, wiggle the pipe back together, and bolt up the hangers. There is a button and a slot where the pipes fit together; if the button is all the way in the slot you're good to go. The good news is that those pipe bombs are a lot smaller than the factory mufflers so it will be much easier to get at the hanger bolts.

They should mount up in the right place; as far as I can tell there is no adjustment for how they hang. One of mine is a little lower than the other and I haven't been able to figure out how to fix that. (no, I am not talking about a medical issue ;) )

I don't have jack stands so i could do it without lifting it. Or could I use the jack supplied with the car, one side at a time?

The way you say it, it sounds easy. And LOL at the medical problem part! :D

Yes its really easy. I did it on the ground the first time with some cardboard on the floor. Second time I used some ramps either way its not bad at all.

JBert : If you would like to adjust the height of the exhaust you need to bend the hangers thats welded to the axle backs. Thats the only true way to adjust it. You should only bend one at a time though so you can dial in exactly where you want it.

I see.
Thanks a lot JBert and rgoddard!
One more thing, do i need a blowtorch to bend the hanger or it can be done by a hammer?

you don't need a blow torch. I used pliers but a hammer could come in handy. if you do use a torch make sure you have the axle backs off the car before even thinking about using it.

Well, no need to mess around with a blowtorch if pliers can do the job.
Thanks!

thanks, yep that's kinda what I figured, didn't see any other way to adjust it

MustangGeek -- don't worry about the adjustment until you find that you have a problem; chances are they will line up nice with no adjusting needed

If I read your post correctly you got the muffler deletes and not the Pype bombs. I just put a set of the muffler deletes on my 06 GT and the passenger side was way off. I cut the rear hanger rod (welded to the pipe) then reinstalled it in the car lapped the rods and welded it together it was about 3/4" too long so it made the right pipe hang down further than the left side. You can go to AM's website and read the reviews this is an ongoing problem with the Pypes muffler deletes but no others that I could see.
Good luck

Yup, they are pypes Muffler Deletes. Yeah, i'll have to get it welded, but we'll see after installation. And how do you like the sound of your car, GTstang09?

I love the sound myself but I could see where some would say it is too loud. If you get on it in town you are going to get attention and it may be the kind you don't want LOL.

I didn't even need jackstands to do mine, i just laid on the ground and the rear was high enough with the OEM springs still in there.

You just need a believe a 15 and 13mm socket is all really. its a 30 min job if you take your time. I've done it in under 10 i've done it so many times

I wouldn't trust just the factory jack while under the vehicle

I have parked the car with one side up on a kerb to get a bit more space underneath.

I put my JBAs on myself & the hardest bit was getting to the bolts with the 'huge' oem mufflers in the way. Had to adjust the muffler hangers on one side after the JBAs were on but it only took about 10 minutes to do as they are smaller mufflers.
