i am looking to buy this 94 5.0 that is pretty heavily modded. bored .60 over systemax2 holley kit (heads, intake, cam pulleys) and a 5 speed conversion. it has a fuel pressure regulator on it when you drive the car normal its fine but when you try to mash the gas the car does fine for a second but then the fuel pressure drops. the guy says its because it stil has the stock fuel pump on with all the mods, could this be true or does the car have other problems. and i know the fuel rails are stock but not sure about the injectors. if it is the pump what size should i get for it?

welcome to the site!

thanks. im not sure i have not even bought the car yet but its a a mechanic shop. the guy is telling me thats the only thing wrong. he says when you mash the gas its not getting enough fuel so it kinda loses power and the fuel pressure drops, i have not driven the car yet i will get to tomorrow

fuel pumps are easy to swap out, tell him to buy a new one and put it in... and if that fixes the problem tell him you will buy it and give him his money for the fuel pump...

This IS the way to handle the problem. If he refuses you even when you offer to pay for the part, that's it.

Walk away.

Seems like fuel pump is kinda worst case for fuel pressure problems. If you go into it assuming that you'll need to replace the pump, I'd be surprised if you get screwed. I don't know what could be worse (unless the entire fuel tank is shot and has to be replaced).

Worst case could be a messed up build on that engine - and problems he doesn't understand and CAN'T fix. And if he's operating a garage, why in the world would he sell a car that just needs a darn pump?

THOSE are the nasty ones. We see them on here sometimes, and usually we bat around the problems for a few pages, and never hear back what it really was.

yea that sexactly what i was thinkin with the ongine and all that has been put into that car why would he sell for so cheap if its only a fuel pump. i did not buy the car so I guess ill never know what was wrong with it.

60 over? Phew, if its a stock block?????????. You can forget anymore rebuilds. Those walls are already paper thin.

1000 bucks says he didnt sonic check the block.

Dont buy it!

My thoughts too. Pump is the problem? A messed up rebuild is the problem. The pump story is camouflage.
