They aren't exported to Japan by the factory. It's 100% home market.

Someone -probably someone on base there took it over with him/her.

Japanese Mustang in the U.K.

Ford exported the Mustang to Japan on three different occasions. The latest was from 1994-2004. Each year approximately 2000 units were exported.
<br>
The cars were built in Dearborne to U.S. specs. They were not DOT or EPA certified though, since they were never intended to be sold in the U.S. Ford Motor Company then transferred the cars to Ford Fleet Sales in California. There, the cars are converted to meet Japanese specs before being exported and transferred to Ford Japan, LTD.

To our friend in the U.K.: What all do you need to know about the JDM Mustang? Here are the main differences in it and a US model...
<br>
Body: factory installed fender flares, folding door mirrors, amber rear turn signals, and fender mounted turn signals.
<br>
Exhaust: 4 cat h-pipe, temperature sensors in lieu of tattle-tale O2 sensors.
<br>
Emissions: Comparable to California cars. The computer and temperature sensor will fool any English-language based emissions test though, so you can run off-road H-pipes and pass the computer test. If the inspectors look under the car though, you're busted.
<br>
Interior: Speedometer/Odometer are in KM. You will hear an annoying chiming sound when the car is in reverse.
<br>
The 4.6L engine and safety features are the same as all other US models.
