I currently have short headers and a Bassani X pipe on a lowered GT. I am thinking of getting catted long tube headers (MACs) and MAC's prochambers.

Since my car is lowered, the first thing that always scratch are the catalytic converters. I wonder if it's gonna get worse if I get the long tube headers?

Anybody out there running LT headers on a lowered Mustang? Just want to make sure I don't get pulled over for making too much spark while driving at night. :)

I'm running a Kooks set up and probably don't scrape my cats any more than a stock exhaust and lowered suspension.

Thanks!
That's comforting to know.

Queston: Did you need to change your engine mounts to lower it to make room for the LT headers? Or is that a problem only to a particular brand?

As long as you go with Kook's, Pypes, or any other mid length header, your cats will not hang any lower than stock. BBK are full length headers and do hang lower than stock. Kooks and the new Pypes are our most popular sellers due to their mid length design.

My car is lowered and I have Kooks LT's with carted X pipe. I never scraped with stock exhaust or with the Kooks.

i have the borla LT's. they are by far the longest unites i have seen for the GT's. now i dont have cats but i do have ground clearence issues. its not only speed bumps i have problems with, its driveway entrances, and parking lot entrances. every time im under my car i just cringe at all the scratches on the collectors of the headers. but it all comes with the territory. its well worth it to me.

I had all kinds of clearance issues with my SLPs. Destroyed the cats and almost my engine too.
SLPs... yes, that's the one that highly recommends you to change your engine mounts.

What's up with MACs LT headers. Some threads say they are regular steel, but retailer's description shows stainless and ceramic coated as well. Is this the thinner 409 (I think) stainless that is not so stainless in the long run or did they change material on all their headers now, just like their earlier MAC mufflers that used to rust so bad?

OR DO ALL STAINLESS STEEL HEADERS RUST EVENTUALLY?

I know my JBA shorties haven't rusted yet so far. Maybe because I don't drive in the rain. I know... shame on me! :nono:

ONE MORE THING: Would a long tube header even make significant hp increase on a supercharged engine? Or is it all for auditory satisfaction? Actually, that's good enough for me to get LTs.

THANKS EVERYBODY FOR ALL THE REPLIES! :wavey

Actually, motor mounts wouldn't really make a difference. The cat placement is just bad

304 stainless shouldn't. 409 stainless will develop a surface rust but will not rust through.

They will make a tremendous difference on any FI motor.
