Ok, here is a big issue that I have, I have found 4 fastbacks at this guys house. I am not even going to say what I got them for because I know you won't believe me. there is 2 65 fastbacks and a 67 and 70 fastback. Here is the issue, NONE of them have titles. I want to restore the 65's first but one is wrecked in the front sheet metal is gone and so is the door tag. The other has had the sheet metal replaced and has a cuope vin number again no door tag. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do? Thanks.

Talk to your state DMV, you should be able to get salvage titles for the cars as long as you have a bill of sale...after you finish the restoration you will have to have the state inspect the car and then they will issue you a title...or at least it should work on some variation of that theme. The vin on the 65's is stamped in several locations up front. If you remove the front fender the vin is stamped on the inner panel in three locations (one visable and two covered by the fender) all three numbers should match but in your case may not but will give you the original vin if the inner fenders are still at least partially intack. The door tag is not the vin location although it appears on the tag. Its the numbers on the inner fenders that you want and need. If none of this works out you may be able to buy a roached out FB that has a good vin and put together a car. Check with the DMV first they get a little touchy about moving vins around. The vins have been cut out of the car. Have you heard of having a vin assigned? Even a roached out fb is crazy cash, want to avoid that if at all possible. The DMV told me today that I need to bond for title. How the hell can I do that without a V.I.N.Preacher17 said:

Sweet deal...What about trading one of the other cars for something with a title and then pieceing one together out of the three? What condition are these in anyway? Three barber chairs???!!!

·See if your state has special laws for "kit cars" or "home-built" cars. Some states are willing to issue new VINs for cars such as yours under certain circumstances via similar laws. If all else fails, you could consult an attorney (of course, after paying one of those predators, you could probably buy a decent-condition running car!)

Hey man, its best to find a MUSTANGS JUNKYARD around you. I live 1 hr from one and besides having thousands of parts in BUILDINGS. they have the actual junkyard with cars only. VINS GALORE!!! I was thinking about getting this 70 FB for the VIN only since it was a good one!
351 4v RAM AIR SHAKER HOOD.
$500 for the car and it does have parts in it. you could actually rebuild it but some dumbass cut off the left front frame rail bc it was so rust free, the right one is there and rust free.
Anyway, to make a long story short you can buy VINs from Mustang Junkyards. The one near me is in Iowa. full of all 65-73 mustangs.

Salvage title info Colorado Salvaged Vehicle Regulations and Consumer Protections - DMV.ORG I would NOT go this route! You still need a valid VIN and the police need to check that.
Custom Built cars Colorado DMV Registration for Custom Built, Kit Cars, & More - DMV.ORG This seems your best bet as it states not only kit but rebuilt vehicles. The DMV will issue a VIN and the state police will engrave it into the vehicle. I would go this route. Go to the DMV and find out for sure. Tell them the current situation. You DON'T want to rebuild this car and then find out you can't register it. THis is also why you got the cars soo cheap, the other owner knew it wouldn't be easy to put them back on the road.

Hah, we've all heard of identity thieves using dead peoples' info. It'd be nice to have the VINs of some identical cars which were crushed long ago...

I don’t know if what I am going to say is totally legal and I’m not going to ask but on my 66 there is enough rust that I am replacing all the sheet metal on the engine compartment, I have already ordered it an of course when I replace this the vin numbers go what I was going to do was cut the vin number out of the old metal and cut the same size hole in the new metal and but weld the vin plate in. I’m sure someone would have a problem with this but what else do you do when restoring a classic?
