I have been working on my brothers 04 Taurus DOHC. He smoked his AC Compressor clutch. I replaced the coil, pulley, bearings and clutch. Got it all back together and it dies. Will not idle.

If you give it a little gas you can keep it running. Otherwise it just sputters and dies. Air is now cold again and no wierd noises or anything from the compressor. The thing only has about 50K on it.

Trouble codes P1633 and P0511

One is apparently not enough power at idle. The other, something with the IAC circuit.

Any ideas what to start with? I cannot think of what I would have touched that would cause this...

We now think it may be a vacuum leak. If we get it up to around 3000 Rpm's, it starts whistling, and a vacuum leak would cause it to sputter, so tomorrow in daylight we are going hunting!

P1633 - Keep Alive Power Voltage Too Low Indicates that the Keep Alive Power (KAPWR) circuit has experienced a power interrupt.
Possible causes:
Open KAPWR circuit
Damaged PCM
Intermittent KAPWR Circuit
KAPWR is supplies from fuse 21 5 amp in the Central junction box (interior fuse panel). It is hot at all times.
There is no P0511 code listed in ford shop manual.

Bert and I found it in the daylight. It was a blown 10A fuse in the underhood fuse box.

OBDII codes P1633 and P0511

Had the same problem with my daily driver '05 Taurus with the flex fuel engine.
Same a/c problem and the same codes.
After wringing out the wiring with a multi-meter and coming up unfulfilled and highly frustrated, I googled the problem and ended up on this site. I read your thread and said to myself "could it really be that simple?"
Ten minutes later, with a fresh fuse installed and the problem disappeared... thanks bud! :worship

P0511 - 10 amp fuse

Same finding. Thank you!! A/C Compressor clutch burnout lead to open in 10 amp fuse, leading to inability for 2005 OHV Taurus to idle. Replaced A/C compressor and also water pump while at it since an older Taurus had water pump failure at 136,000 miles. P0511 Idle Air Control Circuit code detected while running KOEO test. Additional notes are that in the 2005 Taurus, the belt tensioner pulley bolt is a T50 Torx, likely need a crow foot wrench to loosen high pressure hose from the power steering pump if you are removing the power sterring pump. On the A/C compressor itself, the snap for the electrical connector to the A/C clutch is on the bottom side of the connector.
