Does anyone have any examples (or experience) plasti-dipping stripes on their car?

I bought a few (3) cans of plasti-dip and I'm thinking about painting some stripes on the 'Stang.

I got a number of rock chips from my adventures out in AZ, and I'm hoping this will help to hide them.

Many people told me not to drive out there, but what's a car if you don't drive? (I'm ok with getting scruffs here and there. Though I'm not happy about having to replace my windshield due to a rock cracking it.)

Mikev6stang did some once but took them off cuz they didnt look good.

I briefly had plastidip hood spears but they only lasted about a month and a half. I had waxed my car a couple weeks before applying the dip and I think that's why it fell off so soon.

How'd they turn out?

I purposely haven't waxed my car because I'm playing with the idea of plasti-dipping or not.

Though, I am a bit skeptical. I've been over to DipYourCar and checked out some of what they have going on. I'll invest in some youtube watching later to make sure I know what I'm doing.

I thought about doing my hood bulge to see if I'd like a vinyl decal. Then I realized that I would need some type of bendy/stripe tape to do it right.

I did these hood spears around August and they still look just as good as they did then.

My decklid panel was probally my favorite plastidiped project (other then my wheels) as well as the roush tips. Both have been done since about July.

Plasti dip is great and comes right up when its applied in a somewhat thick coat. You also have to remember that if you tape your lines on the car you have to spray the plasti dip and pill up the tape immediately. If you don't and let the plasti dip dry you will pull it right off the car with the tape because it bonds to the plastidip on the tape too. Good luck and no worries with this stuff. Even if you have some over spray it comes right up.with some clay bar or quick detailer

Thanks for the info.

I'm thinking I want to do a sort of 2 customized stripes down my car.

I figured, if the idea in my head looks a lot worse on the car, I can just peel it off. :p

What was the purpose of this?

Thanks for the examples fellas, keep em' coming. :bigthumbsup
Im just skeptical on plastidip on somethings as it can come off sorta easily. Although I am thinking about plastidipping my rear decklid emblem

Now I see where you are coming from.

I'm a skeptic (was [still am?])... but after watching some videos of where those crazy plasti-dippers have dipped their entire car, then used a pressurized washer to clean the car, I realized the stuff sticks. Almost too good.

I don't think its any different than the vinyls Ford places on the car (like the 301A sport appearance package).

If it lasts for close to 6 months, I'd think I'd have gotten my money's worth.

Much cheaper than paying for installation/parts for an actual custom stripe kit.

Yeah I know what ya mean. I want to take off my factory vinyl stripes and paint my hood vents black and put on the boss roof vinyl I think itll look good

They turned out pretty well until they peeled off. One of the edges started peeling slightly when I was using a pressure washer so I ended up pulling them off. As bluebyu said, when laying down stripes, you have to lift the painters tape after each coat while it's still wet.

I did my rear deck lid over a year ago and it still looks the same as the day I did it. It has lived through a harsh winter and a hot summer with no problems.

Well, I did some plasti-dipping today.

Unfortunately, I didn't like the way the spray cans let the color out, so I removed it.

Using the cans, they didn't give an even spread. I tried from various distances, but I just couldn't get a texture/look that I liked.

I tried to do this but I did not get a smooth cutoff line when I removed the tape. Can you sure your method?

OK I read thru the thread and most people are saying to remove the tape right after spraying. Do I have to do that for every coat? Im not new to plastidip. Just not sure how to make straight edges.

I've sprayed two of my friends' Audis along with my foglights, 5.0 badges, faux cap, and the pony upfront. I love this stuff and have been using it for a while now. Gonna do my rims pretty soon now that I have my winters on.
