Ok here it is. i recently bought the SCT x3 tuner and am so happy i did! Now, my question is what will be the difference in performance if i go ahead and set my car up for 93 octane? all i have done is a set of flowmaster axlebacks and a drop in K&N filter... Please no smart comments about the filter cuz i'm still batteling the wife for a CAI....Its a warrenty issue...

I don't think you will feel any huge power difference, but you should notice improved throttle response. Once you put in the 93 tune start bumping your timing up a bit and you will get a little more. Should see better gas mileage for sure. Once you talk her in to the CAI you will really feel the difference!!

Even a stock Mustang with a 93 octane tune with no advance on the spark will benefit tremendously. The tune bypasses the drive-by wire which normally takes your driving into account and over time, makes the transmission more sluggish. You can reset it by lowering the gas pedal all the way down slowly, and slowly raising it when the engine is off, but who wants to do that every time they drive? As Doug stated, your MPG will increase so it will eventually pay for itself.

Warranty. Go and talk to the Shop Manager. If your dealer is a Performance Ford Dealer, sell GT500's, Roush, Saleen, etc.., you may find adding a CAI will not, for that dealer, raise a "warranty" issue. If you look under the hood of a Shelby GT or Bullitt Mustang, you'll find a FRPP CAI. I'm speaking from personal experience and have heard others found similar results.

I have had several CAI's and tunes on my 09 GT. You will feel a difference with the 93 tune over the 87 tune + stock air box. The K&N filter drop in will do nothing for you. I had one at one time and know. The BBK CAI without a tune is a good option. You will feel a good gain and the intake sound is improved. Once you add a tune to the BBK cai there is only a slight power increase, and I mean slight. I also had a steeda cai that gave me good gains but I thought it was ugly under the hood. Now I have a JLT cai and use AM's 93 race tune. I am very happy with this combo. If you have already loaded a tune on your car, "warranty" work could be a problem. You have taken the first step many of us have. Go ahead and order a JLT cai from American Muscle and get your self free tunes for life from them. For $200 you will have soo much more fun driving your Mustang.

well if the car has to go in for service im flashing it back to stock. really the only reason i went with the drop in K&N for the time being is because i rip through filters way too fast. mostly due to dust and such. as far as the CAI, if i've researched it correctly it would only void parts involving the air box. theres some law that protects us from companies voiding our whole warranty based on a part specific mod. Although, i have been eying that JLT CAI on american muscle, or the 85mm CAI from ford

Yep, its called the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)). And you'll find many dealers today could care less about it too. Its really best to just find a dealer that is a Performance Ford Dealer. Less hassles and better understanding of modding mustangs. Both our mustangs are modded heavily and our dealer has never balked on performing warranty work as a result. And it helps to have a good and friendly relationship with your dealer too.
